PRESS CONFERENCE
Last night Mr West, the new Sri Lankan coach had a press conference, lets have a run through about what happened:

Press Conference said:
Mr Suren said:
How is your tactics diffrent from others?
untitled1va2.png
: Well Mr Suren, i enjoy my work. As coach i intend to make my players the best possible. i am going to make sure they enjoy and i enjoy it at the same time. I am different as no-one is the same, i will keep it simple and make sure they get basics right before moving up.

Mr Suren said:
Would you be retiring the old players like Sanath and giving chance of youth like Aussies doing at the moment?
untitled1va2.png
: I am going to be picking the best team possible, i will have a mixture of youth and experience as i believe that the younger players can learn off your Sanath's and Murali's, and the older players get more life but into them.

Mr Suren said:
Whats your short and long term goal as a coach?
untitled1va2.png
: My short term goals as coach is to win the next game, be that a tour game or the world cup final. We have to get through the first series against England, the players have to get to know me, and vice versa.
As for my long term goal, well that is the same as the next person to take this team to the top. But i just want to enjoy this job, and i want the players to enjoy it too.

Mr T.B. Army said:
Aren't you nervous about taking up such a responsibility?
untitled1va2.png
: What have i got to be nervous about? Failing, no not really i want to do well, i am determined to do well. Its a big job, but i am confident that i will do well.

Mr Suren said:
Last but not least, How much money went into the Selector's bank for selecting u as a coach?
untitled1va2.png
: :) ?1.5 millio....i mean... :p nah you know they picked me on my merits, but i wouldn't have turned that offer down if i was a selector.
Thank you for your questions and have a good day.

:clap :clap :clap :clap :clap :clap :clap :clap :clap :clap :clap

As you can see Mr West was rather upbeat and optimistic about his chances as Sri Lankan coach, join us soon for a trainnig update....

TRAINING DAY 1

A great first day in the job, really enjoyable stuff, i have learnt new things and i am sure the team have too.

DAY 1
I got into work at 9:00 am, ready for a 10 am start. I went for a look around the ground, took in the sights. My new office, the changing rooms etc. I walked out to the middle and took a look around the ground, taking in the amazing sight of what the ground will look like when it is full.
I stood at the entrance, awaiting the entrance of my new team, my new friends? Everyone shook hands with me as they came in, before making their way to the changing rooms.

The player gradually made their way out to the green, where i was waiting. i told them to take a seat and gave them a 10 minuite lecture about what i expect and what my aims were. I told them about them my wanting them to have fun and for them to enjoy playing cricket.

After the start, i told them to get warmed up, and they rather surprisingly cheered in delight, perhaps they were getting bored with me talking. I joined them in 3 laps of the ground, Lasith, who turned out to be quite the character was the first to finish. They then stretched out in preparation for the day ahead.

The first task was a game of tag, and they were on teams as a team bonding session. Everyone seemed to be enjoying it, i think they were all trying to show off for the new coach.

The fun soon ended when i told them that it was time to play some real cricket. The nets had been set up, everyone got into pairs and practised their batting/bowling. I went round every net, 12 in total, watching everyone in turn. For the 5 minuites i was watching Chaminda bowling to Kumar, every delivery was in the same area. I then watched on in awe as Murali was spinning the ball at least 30 cm. He was always smiling and that would be something that i would never forget.
On the batting front, the usual suspects of Mahela, Sanath and Kumar played some delightful shots, but i was impressed with the youngsters Vandort, Kapugedera and Tharanga.
After an hour and a halfof specialist training, it was time for the fielding. My best friend Shaun Kallick had offered to take up a coaching space, he had worked with the England team, and played with him whilst at school, college and against him at Somerset. We just hit some simple balls up in the air, before doing all the regular exercises.

It was time for lunch, the team went off laughing anf joking and looked like they had enjoyed every moment so far. in my mangament career so far i never had such a feeling of such exobirants, and joy.

When we came back out, there was press and some fans in the crowd, and we were welcomed with a small round of applause.

The fun and games began, with Murali being at the center of a game of stuck in the mud, a favourite playground classic of mine. This helped build team spirit.
After 30 mins of that, they went back to the fitness side of things with rowing on the machines and on the treadmills and all the gym equipment.
2 hours later, i felt we had had enough for a day, apart from the fun and games.

We took to the pitch again, i decided we would have some cricket related games.
We had a game of hit the wickets, with opposite hands and trying to hit the wicekt from as far away as possible.
100 metre sprints, was enjoyable for everyone especially when Nuwan (zoysa) tripped ver half way through, before preforming a forward roll, into a trip over feet manuvre.
Final item of the day was the big hit game, i cricket bat, one ball, one winner the person who could hit the ball the furthest, which was won by sanath who hit the ball almost from one side of the ground to the other.

A great first day in charge and was left driving home happy and contented....
