World XI beaten convincingly beaten by strong Sri Lanka
Sri lankan captain punches his fist after reaching 200
Sri Lanka have beaten the represenatative World XI by 7 wickets, with Mahela Jayawardene hitting 222 off just 275 balls in the Sri Lankan first Innings. It was a very emotional match as it was only the second match to be played at the Galle ground since it has been re built. Ricky Ponting came back into the World XI team and returned to skipper the side.
Chaminda Vaas picked up 4 wickets in the World XI 1st Innings
The World XI batted well in the first innings to reach 400 all out with main contributer being Graeme Smith with 82 runs. Another good contribution was by Dwayne with 69 but the most suprising bit of the innings was Shane Bond scoring his first ever 50. The leading bowlers were Chaminda Vaas with his 4 wickets and then both Murali and Lasith Malinga chipping in with 3 each,

Matthew Hoggard took 4 wickets in the Sri Lankan Innings
The World XI got off to a flying start in the Sri Lankan innings, Fidel Edwards running Michael Vandort out after he attempted a suicidal run and ended up paying the price. But that was where the luck ran out when the World XI bowlers struggled to pick up the wickets of Tharanga and Jaywardene who shared 272 run partnership, playing some excellent shots before Tharanga tried to slog sweep Panesar but only succedded in finding Matthew Hoggard on the Mid Wicket boundary. That bought Kumar Sangakarra to the crease and he then shared a 104 run partnership. To really fustrate the World XI bowlers. Eventually Sri Lanka were bowled out for 506. The main wicket takers being Hoggard with 4 and Monty Panesar with 3.

Matthew Hayden fell one short of his 29th Hundred.
Matthew Hayden and Jaques Kallis both passed 50 in the World XI innings. Suprisngly Mahela Jaywardene was the leading wicket taker after being advised to use his bowling more. Murali, Vaas and Slinga Malinga all picked up two wickets to restrict them too 342 levaing them with 237 to win.
Kumar Sangakarra hit an unbeaten 76 to guide Sri Lanka to victory.
The World XI once again struggled to take the wickets to bowl Sri Lanka out. Hoggard, Monty and Shane Bond picking up a wicket a peice. But it was the solid batting of Sangakarra that took Sri Lanka to victory.
