Scorecard Making Tutorial for cricket stories

Requirements: Adobe Photoshop

Step 1: Create two new images

Create two new image of size 500 x 530 pixels and resolution 72 pixel/inch. Name one image as 'Main Scorecard' and the other as 'Background'. Now select a color of the team for which you are making the scorecard. As I am making a scorecard of India I have selected the blue color with lighter shade in the foreground and comparatively darker shade in the background.

Step 2: The Gradient Tool

Now use the
gradienttoolxr3.jpg
Gradient Tool and drag a gradient over the 'Background' image.
Procedure : Select Gradient tool and then click and hold the left mouse button on the left side of the image and then drag the mouse horizontally to the right of the image. This will give a gradient for lighter to darker shade.

Step 3: Create the bars or tabs for the scorecard.

Note : Make sure that you wont close the 'Background' image till you make the complete scorecard.

(a.) Select the 'Rounded Rectangle Tool'
roundedrectangletoolcd9.jpg
as shown below (Make sure that you have selected paths at the top of the screen check Fig.3). With the help of that tool create a rectangle on the 'Background' image leaving some gap from both ends.

Fig.3

(b.) From the Paths tab, you will see the path which you have created just now with the 'Rounded Rectangle Tool'
roundedrectangletoolcd9.jpg
. Now click 'Load path as a selection' so that you will get a selection of the rectangular path.

Fig.4

(c.) Now right click on the selection using 'Rectnagular Marquee Tool' and click 'Layer via Copy' and drag the layer on the 'Main Scorecard' image using the 'Move Tool'
movetoolku9.jpg
. Place the selected layer in such a way that you have left some space above it for the header. Name the layer as Row1.

Step 4: Bevel and Emboss

(a.) Now the next step is to Emboss the layer. Right click on the Row1 layer and then select Blending Options>Bevel and Emboss. Use the values as shown in the Fig.5 to give a decent look to the layer.

Fig.5

(b.) Now along with the emboss you have to use drop shadow as well to give slightly more effects to the layer. Similar to the previous step select Blending Options>Drop shadow and use the values as shown in the Fig.6.

Fig.6

Step 5: Duplicate the Row

(a.) Duplicate the layer 'Row1' and name it as 'Row2'. Move the new layer below the previous layer using the 'Move Tool'
movetoolku9.jpg
or for better accuracy use the arrow keys. Make sure you have left a small gap between the two rows.

Fig.7

(b.) Similarly follow the step 5a and create 11 such row in all so that you will get the image as shown in Fig.8.

Fig.8

Step 6: Header and Footer

(a.) Now this should be easier or you. Just as we created rows in Step3 in the similar way create a Header using the 'Rounded Rectangle Tool'
roundedrectangletoolcd9.jpg
. Go back to the 'Background' image and follow the same procedure as we did in Step3 and drag this new layer to the 'Main Scorecard'. Name this layer as Header.

(b.) Now to make this layer look different from the Rows which have created, we make it a bit darker by using 'Gradient overlay'. Select 180 degree angle and then double click on the Gradient and edit the gradient from the Gradient Editor as shown in the Fig.9.

Fig.9

(c.) Now follow Step 4a and 4b to apply Bevel and Emboss and Drop Shadow to the layer 'Header'.

(d.) Similarly create the 'Footer' by using step 6a, 6b, 6c. Use 'Rectangular Marquee Tool'
rectangularmarqueeut0.jpg
for that. You will get the result as shown in Fig.10.

(e.) Follow the above steps and create a new layer 'Extras' which will include the extras given away by the opposition.

50% of the work is done till now :)

Step 7: Text and its alignment

(a.) Use a suitable font and size and create a text for the player name and use the values for 'Drop Shadow' as shown in the Fig.11.

11dz5.jpg

Fig.11

(b.) Similarly duplicate the layer and edit the names for all players. No need to create the text again and again, just duplicate the one who have already created.

(c.)The most important step is to align the text properly. This is done by using the Ruler(Ctrl+R). Select the 'Move Tool'
movetoolku9.jpg
and click-hold and drag a line from the Ruler from the left side(you will get the blue horizontal line as shown in the Fig.12a and 12b). Make sure you create a new layer for the modes of dismissal and the players score. As shown in the fig 'S.Ganguly', 'not out' and '100(100)' are three different layers and not a single layer.

(d.) Type the team name and team score and just apply stroke to those layers. The final outcome will be as shown in the Fig.13.

Fig.13

90% of the work is finished. :)

Step 8: Adding the logo

(a.) Select the logo of the team and cut it using Pen tool or any other cutting tool and Drag it on the 'Main Scorecard' image. Make sure that you have placed the layer before the text layer starts and after the Row layer ends. Decrease the opacity of the layer to 30 or less.

Fig.14

(b.) The last step is to add the logo on the Header. Use Outer Glow with the following values and change the Contour.

(c.) Final step is to add any TV channel logo at the bottom of the image.
