ASSOCIATE PREMIER LEAGUE
SEASON FOUR

Hello, and welcome to my round-up of this, the fourth season of the Associate Premier League. I'd like to thank all of the managers for helping make yet another great season of the APL. Unfortunately, the time has come to say goodbye to one of them: goodbye to Zakistan, the manager who turned Dubai around from being one of the weakest teams in the competition to the season three champions. In his place, we will see Singhb, who is to take over for season four.

Firstly, the golden ball must be awarded. There were a few candidates for this one: Dirk Nannes (18 wickets at 20 each) and Mudassar Bukhari (16 wickets at 19.5) to a brace of four wicket hauls each for Amsterdam, Amjad Khan performed the same trick during his 18 wickets at just 15.8, but the winner of this award is former West Indies spinner, Neil McGarrell. His nineteen victims came at just 14.6 each, and included two four-fas. He also led Washington's resurgence to the top half of the table. Well bowled.

Next to go is this season's golden bat. There were three contenders for this award, and all from the same team as last season's winner: Dubai Dominators. The Bronze Medallists could call upon Mohammad Shahzad, Gavin Hamilton and Mark Chapman at three, four and five. The seventeen year old Hongkonger put in a top-class effort to average a skyscraping 235 with the bat. His reliability under pressure meant that he was dismissed just once. The top run-scorer was left handed Gavin Hamilton, whose 354 runs came at an average of 44.3. However, the crown jewel of this batting-heavy team was Mohammad Shahzad, who, despite scoring slightly fewer runs, made them at far more important times. He recorded no less than four matchwinning half-centuries.

Mohammad Shahzad's batting was, at times, brutal.

The final and most prestigious award can only go to one player. The only centurion of the season, David Hemp's purple patch ignited the Toronto title challenge. His big score in the preliminary final took them to a victory, but it was in the final that he came to his own. His 107 was one of the APL's classic innings, and it single-handedly won the competition.

David Hemp's quirky shots were very effective.
