Having batted at a surprisingly slow pace in his last couple of matches, Jason Roy was back to his usual destructive self for this all-important semi-final against arch-rivals Australia. He raced to a half-century off just 26 balls while his opening partner Daniel Bell-Drummond struggled for timing during their 96-run opening stand.
However, the introduction of Adam Zampa caused a few ripples in Great Britain's lineup as they slumped from 100/1 to 188/9.
Luckily, they had Sam Billings hanging on to shepherd the tail. He managed to add a very valuable 34 off 32 balls with Reece Topley for the final wicket and helped Great Britain bat out their full quota of 40 overs. They finished with 222, with Billings remaining unbeaten on 61 off 65 balls.

Initially, it seemed Australia would gun down 222 with ease given how easily Chris Lynn and Aaron Finch were finding the boundaries. Even the superbly in-form Tom Curran was rendered ineffective. But one can't keep a good leg spinner down.
Adil Rashid, whose overall bowling figures in the tournament read 16-0-101-1, shot back to prominence by removing both Lynn and Finch. He then applied the stranglehold on Australia's middle-order alongside Sam Curran by conceding at a little above 3 an over. They went on to suffer an even worse collapse than Great Britain, losing their final 8 wickets for just 67 runs.
Rashid finished with 4 for 24 and picked the final wicket to fall as his team celebrated a 49-run victory over the old enemy Australia. The latter will now have one last chance to redeem themselves by contesting the Bronze playoff with the loser of the 2nd semi-final. Great Britain on the other hand are now guaranteed either Silver or Gold as a result of making it to the cricket final of the 2016 Games.

Trinidad & Tobago's power hitters looked far from their best today. Lendl Simmons batted well at the top, scoring 50 off 59 balls, but the likes of Darren Bravo and Kieron Pollard failed to get going. Chris Gayle continued to lead from the front with the bat for his country. The Jamaican skipper scored 76 off 67 balls, putting on a quickfire 71 for the 2nd wicket with Marlon Samuels who raced to 40 off just 29 balls. While Gayle's knock was perhaps not as dominant as the one against Sri Lanka, it contained 5 sixes as opposed to only 3 fours - taking his tournament tally to a mind-boggling 15 sixes from only 3 matches.
Trinidad's maverick spinners and crafty pacers were rendered ineffective as the Jamaicans scored at almost 6.5 an over. Sunil Narine, the leading wicket-taker of the competition until now went wicketless for 36 off his 5 overs.
Rovman Powell and Andre Russell took over after Gayle's dismissal at the hands of Derone Davis, and guided Jamaica to a comfortable 5-wicket victory by putting up an unbeaten 54 off 48 balls for the 6th wicket. Jamaica were through to the final to face Great Britain, leaving Trinidad & Tobago to battle it out for bronze with Australia.

Explanation on pitch types
Dusty - Plenty of turn on offer for spinners and a good place to bat for spin-savvy batsmen. Good pace bowlers are still likely to thrive.
Evenly balanced - Provides an evenly balanced contest for all disciplines.
Flat - A batsman-friendly pitch which provides little or no assistance to bowlers. Expect big totals.

Explanation on pitch types
Dusty - Plenty of turn on offer for spinners and a good place to bat for spin-savvy batsmen. Good pace bowlers are still likely to thrive.
Evenly balanced - Provides an evenly balanced contest for all disciplines.
Flat - A batsman-friendly pitch which provides little or no assistance to bowlers. Expect big totals.
Green - A lot of movement on offer, which makes it ideal for bowlers capable of swinging the ball. Quite rare to find in the UAE.
Hard - Ideal conditions for batting. Good deal of bounce on offer for fast bowlers as well. Could go either way.
Dry/Slow - Ideal for slow and spin bowlers as the name suggests. Sometimes quite difficult to bat on.
