Jamaicans reach Niue, is all business

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
An 18 member Jamaica squad reached Hanan International Airport today for a three match ODI series. It was all business for Jamaica as the players and coaching staff hit the nets for an extended session only an hour reaching the team hotel.

With a pace friendly wicket expected for the first match, the experienced Dick Punani had seamers Butch Jones and Tyrone Miller bowl to him who focused on bowling fuller in an attempt to extract swing and seam movement from the wicket. Skipper Patrick and top order batsmen Powell and Brown were seen negotiating the pace of McKay, Cargill and Coverly while Russell opted for going for big shots he is known for and succeeded in it. One of the many massive shots from Russell saw a Yohan Quarrie ball whacked out of the stadium.

In another interesting move, the playing XI for the first ODI was declared soon after the net session ended which drew more criticism from the fans who were of the opinion that it will demoralize the players who have been left out. Carl Hooper, the head coach of Jamaica was quick to point out that it was done for the good of the team. "We have done what we thought would be the best for the team. These are international players and well aware that only the best XI as per the match situation will be getting the chance however, they will get their due chances when the situation is right. We announced our XI early because we wanted our selected players to know that they need to be working on harder and get acclimatized to the situation so that they are best prepared for the match."

The XI saw no surprises as Jamaica went with 5 men pace attack led by Jermaine McKay and Tyrone Miller. Opener Chris Ricardo has been left out as Kevin Moss and Colin Philip are selected to see off the new ball. The middle order is the main strength of Jamaica with the likes of Dick Punani, Shavar Powell, Ricky Brown and skipper Patrick Walters being the core of the team. Stephen Russell is another allrounder in the side who is known for his big hitting and accurate bowling. The selectors have preferred Jerome Salmon who is a better batsman over Basil Hyatt for the role of gloveman.

Final XI: Kevin Moss, Colin Philip, Ricky Brown, Dick Punani, Shavar Powell, Patrick Walters :c: :bwl: , Jerome Salmon :wk: , Stephen Russell :bwl: , Malachi Coverly :bwl: , Tyrone Miller :bwl:, Jermaine McKay :bwl:

Sweet victory!! Tawfiq Hamid's a complete beast. Asim Mansur finally found his form. Good to see Zaid Ebrahim score a hundred. A tie isn't a bad outcome, specially after that sort of performance shown by the Aussies in the first game.

Well done team :thumbs.
