This is where the country’s future stars show the skills they have learned over all the years of playing schools cricket.

If you perform exceptionally well here, there is the possibility of being selected for the SA Schools side or the Schools Colts team.

The Academy

The foundation of the Eastern Province Cricket Academy was laid by Makhaya Ntini with the sole aim of providing quality cricket training, world-class cricketing infrastructure, and opportunity to learn from experts in the field of cricket through a fun and innovative environment.

The flagship cricket academy was founded in 23-acre eco-friendly campus at Bhisho the capital city of Eastern Cape Province of South Africa in the year 2011, with an emphasis to provide students with best-in-class cricket facilities and training.

This all-year-round academy integrates the best in cricketing techniques, technology, and coaches to develop a World-Class Cricketer of Tomorrow.

For the overall development of the young cricketers, strength improvement through other games – swimming, tennis, football – mini tournaments, and sessions with specialists are organised, based on the ability, age group and expertise level of the players.

Architectural Impression

The building has been designed as a dynamic, robust steelframe structure, which accommodates multi-purpose functions. However, it is primarily a sports facility for cricket, to provide indoor cricket training, integrating a state of the art facility with teaching facilities for cricket; life skills and training. The curved form chosen for the architecture, places the building sensitively onto the landscape, whilst opening up towards the sportsfield. The main hall provides opportunities for raked seating for spectators to watch training during special events. A roof deck overlooking the sports field is provided from the office administration and players’ lounge area. Makhaya’s personal input is captured in the design, especially his vision to provide for indoor fast bowling training and techniques on the indoor grass pitch. This requirement stretched the creative ability of the Architects and this was achieved through the creation of ventilated semi-covered space with appropriate drainage for adequate treatment of the semi-indoor grass pitch. The facility has been designed to accommodate possible future extensions. The facility also includes a caretaker’s apartment; 2 Astro Turf bowling Pitches which extend to the outside to provide the standard 25m bowling distance; 1 indoor pitch with a bowling machine; 1 indoor grass pitch; Multi-Purpose Entertainment Lounge – also for presentations and Sports Bar. Outdoor bowling nets have been included in the brief.

• Summer Camps: ​
• Along with our regular programmes, we conduct extensive Summer Camps every year, coinciding with the school holidays. These day camps are packaged with comprehensive skill development classes and fitness sessions. Selected talents from these camps are encouraged to become our regular students as well. Our residential Summer Camp programs are a comprehensive cricket camp for young cricketers offering them an opportunity to stay and learn at the state-of-the-art campus at EPCA, Bhisho enhancing their cricketing abilities. The intensive training session includes training and drills, personal and group coaching, personality development and mental and physical fitness, along with other learning prospects.​

• Junior Pitch:
  One-of-a-kind initiative, Junior Pitch is a weekend cricket league for children below the age of 14 years, providing a taste of competitive environment for budding cricketers.
  
  The league gives a child an opportunity to play friendly matches, inculcate discipline, develop as a team player and learn fundamentals of the sport.
  
  The annual event takes place at prominent sports grounds in Eastern Cape province between three different age groups: League 1 for Under 10, League 2 for Under 12, and League 3 for Under 14. Each league has 6 teams, with each team given the opportunity to play against each other twice. While the Under 14 and Under 12 play T20 format, Under 10 play 15 over matches.​

• Super Fridays:​
• Once a week, every Friday, a current or former international cricket player will join the budding cricketers at the academy and have interaction with them giving the most invaluable knowledge about cricket from their skill and experience. Thanks to the esteemed coaching panel at EPCA, lot of exciting cricketers are thought to be taking part in this unique initiative. The list of cricketers who have confirmed their participation for the Fun Fridays program include the names of Hashim Amla, AB de Villiers, Morne Morkel, Albie Morkel, Ashwell Prince, Justin Kemp, Colin Ingram, Andrew Hall, Neil McKenzie, Rusty Theron, Mahela Jaywardene, Kumar Sangakkara, Rahul Dravid, Mohammad Yousuf, Rahul Dravid, Marcus Trescothick, Ian Butler, Greg Blewett, Dwayne Bravo and Azhar Mahmood. It can be understood that the long international careers of Shaun Pollock and Makhaya Ntini and fruitful coaching stints of Graham Ford with Sri Lanka cricket team and Kent and Sussex county cricket team has helped EPCA get many of the finest cricketers aboard for the Fun Fridays program.​
