Post Line-ups Legends At Battle XII | Round 3 - The greatest ODI batter who never was..

One change please. Denis Lindsay to come in place of Lee Irvine and will keep. He hasn't been that good with the bat as I expected and hence this forced change. Hopefully Barlow will come good this time round and so will all the other players with an all round performance!

Viv Richards was the difference, was expecting much more from our bowlers at the 2nd innings on a waca pitch, chasing almost 300 was never easy, maybe not picking warne back fired us.Thanks to @VC the slogger for this well presented league & @Umair2000 for having me as your co manager.
With due respect, Warne would have made little difference on a seamer's paradise. I think you missed the trick by not having an extra seam bowling option.

Holding is back for us just at the right time. Not only he will be a handful in the next match, he was no noob with the bat too giving us invaluable batting strength low down the order. Look at the number of sixes he has hit. He could bat good, good enough to save test matches upto a certain extent if the situation demanded but he never was put in that position which meant he would play for the crowd. Holding in for Croft. Croft is the unlucky one again despite good show. I have enough faith in Garner's allround skills.

Malcolm Marshall was at it again, dismissing the last two South African batsmen to give his team a thrilling win by just 4 runs and a final berth.

clive-rice-returns-pa-28835.jpg

Clive Rice did everything humanely possible for his team but still ended up on the losing side. His 11 wickets coupled with a century that brought South Africa back from the dead during their run chase was quite easily the best performance of the season.

Aaaaaaahhhh! Very very frustrating and disappointing. A pat on the back for Clive Rice as that actually was the best performance one person can pull out in a losing cause. But, just 5 runs? I am stunned and very very very sad that this side is going out of the tournament. Well done all the players! Good luck to both the finalists, much deserved.

I would say amazingly well done by the Proteas to amass 340+ in the fourth innings against the best pace attack ever. Take a bow, Clive Rice, take a bow.

Take a bow, Clive Rice, take a bow.

I really wish he could have done so in real life too. Both him and Mike Procter. If only there was no apartheid..

They definitely had the class to rival the likes of Hadlee, Imran Khan, Botham, Kapil Dave etc. Probably Stephenson too.

Just having a look through this stats and I must say, you have really nailed the rating for both the batsmen and the bowlers. Good Job mate, really does the legends some real justice.

Thanks.

I wasn't able to bring out the best in Sid Barnes the opener, Lee Irvine, Procter and probably even Bradman (pair + average of just 70!) to name a few, but I guess that's just cricket sometimes. The venues changing after every match and them having to acclimatize to a huge range of pitch conditions couldn't have made their job any easier. And it's not possible for everyone to strike form in a cricket tournament anyway, whether they be legends or not.

Final

Australia B v West Indies A
at The MCG

- Very good conditions for batting. Although a predominantly pace friendly wicket, there's expected to be something on offer for spinners late in the game.
- Players unavailable: Jeff Dujon (WIA)

I've already got Australia's lineup, so I just need the West Indian one and we're good to go. Unfortunately, their main keeper just managed to get himself injured somehow on the eve of the game!

There could not have been a more wrong time for any of our players to get injured. Dujon was the fulcrum between the late middle order and lower order on top of his excellent skills behind the wicket. Murray almost as influential too. Not only he was a brilliant keeper, he had a rare ability to stitch important partnerships with lower order batsmen/bowlers. Apart from the forced change, good ol' Haynes comes back in for Roy whose batting form has been on the slump. Expect some Haynes-Greenidge magic as they are back together once again. Kalli can bat against spinners and seamers with great aplomb which is not the case with Row. What is even more crucial is that will cover up any loopholes in the batting left by the forced exit of Dujon and the poor form of Roy and Rowe.

So, here it is then: Dujon (forced) and Roy out, Murray and Haynes in respectively.
