The West Indians were overrun by a classy Doug Walters and a disciplined bowling effort by the Australians in the first innings. They only narrowly avoided the follow-on thanks to a 115-run stand between Richards and Dujon.

That however wasn't the end. They bounced back like true legends in the second innings, led by a fiery spell from Michael Holding who was given valuable support by Marshall and Stephenson.

341 seemed like a very steep target but a perfect opening stand between Roy Fredericks and Gordon Greenidge set the platform for a brilliant run chase. But despite losing, the Australians ended up only one point inferior to their rivals owing to their first innings dominance.

Andrew Jones, Ken Rutherford and Richard Hadlee tried bloody hard to save the game but South Africa's all-round strength was just too great for them.

A gritty knock by Ed Barlow followed by enterprising ones from the prolific duo of Peter Kirsten and Graeme Pollock set up a mammoth first innings total which the Kiwis never looked like coming close to. A massive victory by 10 wickets also earned the Springboks two bonus points instead of one.

A Don did score a hundred, but it wasn't Bradman. Out of all the illustrious names playing in the match, the legendary keeper but not so legendary batsman Don Tallon seemed the least likely to get a century. Yet he got the only century of the match.

Stuart MacGill lived up to his initials "SCG MacGill" by picking up 6/40 in the second innings on his home ground, the SCG. This gave his team a fair shot at beating the Invincibles.

However, they still remained invincible at the end of the match, with Ian Johnson removing Gilchrist, Lehmann, MacGill and McGrath in succession to see Waugh's Australians fall short by just 7 runs in a thrilling finish. Johnson's match figures were a little matter of 9-93 from 28 overs in total.
