This league is intended as a sequel to my PC Ashes 2013/14, which was perhaps my most active league thread till date, despite containing only 5 Tests and 5 ODIs. This time, I plan to do a PCFTP-eqsue lead-up of sorts for only England and Australia by making them play Test & ODI series in the real life FTP (and some of my invention) for the cricketing seasons of 2017 and 2017/18 until the real life Ashes series. I believe it should provide PC players signing up for both countries with enough matches under their belt to showcase their skills before the real deal begins in November 2017.
The 2017 season is mostly dominated by international fixtures involving the English team against Ireland, South Africa and the West Indies. Australia get to play only one series during this period - two ODIs in Scotland as a warm-up to their Champions Trophy campaign. However, the Australia A team is set to tour England for 3 unofficial Tests and an unofficial One-day Tri-Series involving the England Lions and Ireland, which should allow players on the fringes of national selection for both teams to make a case for themselves before the start of the 2017/18 season which will be crucial for both teams.
The start of the 2017/18 season is when the real action starts for both teams, with Australia hosting New Zealand, whom they will play later in a Trans-Tasman ODI Tri-Series involving England, for 2 Tests. This will be followed by three consecutive rounds of the Sheffield Shield, Australia's domestic first-class competition which should allow Test hopefuls enough practice before The Ashes series begins in late November.
England have been awarded a total of four tour matches - three prior to the Ashes series and one between the 2nd and 3rd Tests, ranging between 3 to 4 days, to acclimitise themselves with Australian conditions. The league will conclude with the Trans-Tasman ODI Tri-Series involving Australia, England and New Zealand set to be played in February 2018.
