Tharanga Paranavitana's much criticised go-slow approach at the top which kept him out of Sri Lanka's one-day team was vindicated this time. After sharing in a 118-run partnership with skipper Ricky Ponting, he held firm for a 131-ball 95 while Basnahira's middle-order suffered from a few late chase hiccups. A momentary lapse in concentration however cost him a hundred that was easily there for the taking.
