Why I hate ICC08

I just have so many problems with this game I dont know where to begin. Im an avid lover of the 06 engine loving its easy going and simplsitic design. This game just angers me at almost whatever I do. First of all, in international mode I was England for three years and I never lost a test series and had 30 plus points and was the leading side in the rankings. I look today and I have 22 points even though I havent lost a series and my team is fourth in the rankings. Now onto ODI's..

Some of my bowlers with averages of 20 are gettin hammered for 80+ runs in ten overs for no wickets. I have tried using decent fields, changing bolwing tactics and attempting to expose the batsmens weaknesses. I struggle to bowl out my opposition in a fifty over format unless theyre batting second and Iv put a good total on the board and they just collapse.

These are the four scenarios I face in a ODI which is why I believe its unrealistic compared to past games.

1) The other team bats first and I struggle to bowl them out. They usually make about 290 for 4. (This is sometimes even against teams such as Bangladesh)

2) The other team bats first and I cruise to victory making the total for 2-3 wickets down.

3) I collapse to an embarassing defeat.

4) They collapse to an embarassing defeat.

What Im saying is I rarely have a close ODI and the computer IMO is too unrealsitic. If I set a target that requires 6 an over. The computer will not try to spread out the runs over the coruse of the 50 overs but will go all guns blazing from the start and wickets will tumble with most batsmen making 8 or 9 runs.

Maybe its just my game but I feel the AI has significantly backpeddled since the 06 version.

I couldn't disagree with you more. I haven't had any of the troubles you mentioned in the slightest, Icc 08 is by far the best

Pal, i think any true player of ICC 2008, or any versions except III will claim that you're either unbelieveably blind, or just don't play the game properly.

I always have tight contests, and usually they involved a series at 2-2. Like i've just played the Australians, they made 280 on a turning wicket with Monty and Rashid in full flight for the loss of 9 wickets, i start off and crusie to 50 before Strauss goes for one too many.

In the next 3 overs i lose Shah, KP and my Regen Billy Book. Its left to Chef (Cook) and Fred to rebuild the damage. Last over, 9 needed, last ball, 4 needed, misfield, we win!

I've had walk overs, and i've been walked over. You obviously aren't playing the game properly, my guess is you autoplay?

No i dont think he autoplays. If he autoplays he wont be able to change tactics. One advice rko500 : Just keep playing again and again and you will stumble upon a tactic that suits you.

lol maybe im just living in denial.
I just find it hard to find positives compared to previous game.
After playing ICC III i could see the positivies from 06.
But after that I do not think 08 is much of an improvement, just some new skins and features.

For instance I think the highlights are terrible. Many a time Iv seen players seem to unrealisitically slide to the left in a fraction of a second and drive a straight ball for four. And before you say, yh but 06 didnt have many shots either, 06 was not about realsitic gameplay. Now with 08 consisting of a 3D engine, realism is a key feature to this game. I just feel in the next installment the following should be available:

more realisitic advancing down the wicket shots,
a better cut and pull shot (the cut shot is terrible),
reverse sweeps,
team run outs (not just direct hits everytime),
more pitch detail (rough spots etc)
the ability to instruct a player to pitch the ball in a speicifc area (eg. allowing the spinners to bowl into the rough generating greater spin)

You all may think Im being picky, but to be honest, I have not seen any great improvements from III to 08 and I do not think that the above would be hard to create an include in a cricket game that has now been active for 10 years.
To me these improvements would make the game ten times better and more enjoyable. Wacthing the highlights gets boring when you see players hitting the identicle strokes. How much more interesting would it be to have a variety of modified strokes for each different shot eg. 5 different on drives.

The pitching area has 3 blocks at the moment(full, normal, short) it should be 3x3 blocks(full outside off, full on the legs-more chance of a wide ball being bowled, good length outside off, good length aiming for the rib area, short outside off, short ball aimed at the leg side that induces the hook shot).

If there is anything that needs changing it is the number of dropped catches.

ICC 2008 is the best in the series. :happy
ICC 3 is the worst. :noway
end of story :D

I don't think I've ever enjoyed winning matches on ICC as I do on ICC 2008. Which of course makes me want to play more games. It's a very good game imo. Best in series? Well, I probably played the original the most. But, a) I was about 11/12 and b) it was a completely different game back then. The series has progressed quite a bit in 2008.

I too really enjoy the game, it must have been good, i actually paid for it. That in itself speaks volumes.
