Hi guys. I've just been told that AVG Anti Spyware is no longer supported, and I need to upgrade. I did that, downloaded the file, but it's a 51mb .php file called index. What the hell do I do with this?? It isn't an installer. It came from download.com, so I doubt if it's anything naughty!!

I didn't quite understand what you mean by not supported, and you needed to upgrade, anyway here's the link for the download..
Download AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5.1.43 - FileHippo.com

Regarding the php file, are you sure its 51 MB !! If it is, try renaming it to anything.exe might work.
Most probably its just the web-page which got downloaded automatically instead of what you were trying to download. But then, it shouldn't be 51 MB.

Exactly, a .php is never that big!

To clear it up, what happened was I tried to run AVG Anti Spyware and a popup came up that said it was no longer supported after Dec 31st 2008, and I needed to upgrade to version 8. Anyway, I've done that now. V8 seems to have a much cleaner interface and it looks like AVG Antispyware/Antivirus are integrated into the same application now? Does it now scan for viruses and spyware in the same scan?

Yes, from the looks of it, they have created a suite containing the antispyware and antivirus.
Is is no longer free??

Still free and quite a bit faster than the old version as well! So far, I am very impressed.

By the way, someone told me that scanners run faster if you don't install them on C:\. Is that true?

Don't think so. Unless the disk is different, it should not make any difference. You have system files running on C:\, but since it's the same disk, the speed would not be affected even if you install to a different partition.
If there is another hard disk, it may have an impact. Still it would not be too much even if it does.
