At this point I'd go with Aamer...I think he's in his prime right now but I'm hoping he proves me wrong and follow on the footsteps of Wasim and plays for decades.

Yes. I hope so too. Pakistan will be extremely delighted if they know they have found a player who bowls awesome pace, is getting accurate and will be a permanent fixture in the squad for atleast 10 yrs. It would really balance the team if a player grabs onto his opportunity and secures his spot

Comparing them on what they have currently done is obviously going to lead to Johnson.
Potential wise its interesting, Aamer at 17 and already hitting 140km/h and picking up wickets can definitely start to increase his speed and fine tune his technique. Parnell is slightly more into his career but also has time to fine tune his things.

Johnson if he figures out how he bowled in SA could still top this list if it was asked again in 5 years time. That spell was one of the best I've seen from an Aussie quick.

Mohd.Aamer at the moment. Parnell looks a bit overhyped to me. He has a lot to prove as has Aamer but I'd go with Aamer. Pakistan have to be careful with Aamer because they`ve been quite similar to India in losing pace bowling talent due to various reasons. It happened with Shoaib, almost the same with Asif and Gul has`nt hit his straps as a test match bowler yet. Although Pakistan have found a lot of pace bowling talent in the past few years, a lot of them have faded away as well. Shabbir Ahmed, Md.Zaeed (claimed to be the fastest in the world), Azhar Mahmood (one of my favorite all rounders),

Mitchell Johnson is already 4 years into his career and still struggling. Yeah, he has been pretty lucky to get wickets of rank bad deliveries. Is`nt as great as people make it sound like.

The thing is, Mitch in full swing is the greatest sight I've seen, he is just the most lethal bowler in the world. When he gets up to the level, no batsman is good enough to play him. Pace, bounce, swing, accuracy, and that awkward left arm slingy style angle. It's incredible. I don't think Aamer or Parnell will ever achieve that.

Agreed Syl. That spell was a treat to watch. I didn't catch the live telecast, but I watched a bit of his hostile bowling on Youtube and read a bit about it on cricinfo. He was awesome. No doubt about that.

I really hope he's not in his prime now -__-

I`m yet to see something like that, if it ever existed. Johnson`s best was arguably the series against SA (both home and away) but even then it was nothing like what you suggested. SA would`nt have chased down 413, nor would Dale Steyn have thwarted them for such a long time as he did at the MCG had Johnson`s best been so lethal.
He could be awkward at times. He had a great start to his career but nothing close to what you said about his best.

Exactly my thoughts. If this is Aamer`s prime, he`d end up being another Irfan Pathan.

This is not his prime. He is yet to put some muscle on and if handled right (a big If) this lad will be a much improved bowler two years down the line.

You have only referred to his spells in Australia against SA. His best spell was in South Africa. He retired hurt Smith and IIRC Kallis had to go off. The scorecard below show he can be accurate, take out batsmen and also get wickets. They won't show you how he got them but if you find highlights of them you will see what Zorax is talking about.
1st Test: South Africa v Australia at Johannesburg, Feb 26-Mar 2, 2009 | Cricket Scorecard | Cricinfo.com
2nd Test: South Africa v Australia at Durban, Mar 6-10, 2009 | Cricket Scorecard | Cricinfo.com

And he might be struggling but he has 131 wickets at 28.7 with a strike rate of 53, some bowlers can only dream of getting those stats and Johnson isn't even at his peak as you said.

The McKenzie wicket ball just spit up off the pitch, love seeing that.

Have not seen Mitch produce an inswinger lbw (Amla) like that recently.
