Chris Cairns 'devastated' by comments | Stuff.co.nz

Big news over here, I suspect Mr. Modi might be in a touch of trouble. I noticed the story on cricinfo where they reported that Cairns was involved in match fixing has been taken down.

A report on leading cricket website Cricinfo was removed, and Fitch-Holland said he would be seeking apologies and retractions after Modi's "defamatory remarks" were quoted elsewhere

Edit: Chris Cairns out of IPL for match-fixing slur

This contains some of the comments I suspect.

The (IPL) governing council has decided against keeping him on the list," Modi told Cricinfo.

We have removed him from the list...as we have zero tolerance for this kind of stuff," he said.

"A player writes to us to be put into the auction. We may choose to allow him in or not. In a case where there is any doubt about conduct or behaviour we prefer to keep that player out of the tournament," Modi said.

Fair enough I suppose. Always good to see Modi take a kick in the balls.

Now this is nuisance. Cairns is a free agent now and recalling his past conduct during international carrer is untolerable.
Where was Modi when Harbhajan was involved in the controversy. If Cairns is delisted, Harbhajan too deserve the same.

P.s.- I don't think it will have any meaning for Cairns.

TBH I don't think Cairns would get picked up anyway.
He's 39, and there are players like Bond, Akmal, and Aamer there.

It sucks for Cairns though, but he can't have seriously expected to be picked. I'm sure he can still hit it a mile but hes a bit too old now.
I wonder how the situation is going to fold out

It doesn't matter whether Cairns was going to be picked up in the auction, as far as he is concerned his named has been tarnished with unfair comments that as far as he is concerned are not true.

The official word this morning was that he was taken off the player list because he was involved in match-fixing and Modi stated that the IPL doesn't stand for that. It's hit his reputation hard and might affect his chances of coaching in the future.

I'd like to see Modi ban the Aussie players, but I don't think he has the balls.

Modi is a dick. Good for Cairns for sticking up for himself. He's that kind of guy. But yeah, getting picked at 39, probably not. If he was 5 or 6 years younger he'd be picked for sure i'd say.

Very true. Modis a complete ███████

so then why is Gibbs playing and wasn't Warne also involved in match fixing. Modi is just talking trash because I guess a 39 year old ex-ICL player is not the kind of player he wants in his league. Nicky Boje also applied, I wonder is he will be allowed to played, after all he was accused of match fixing but never returned to India for Questioning.

And yet the league is dominated by players like Gilchrist, Hayden, Kumble and Warne. He could fit right in.

Modi's nothing more than a dumb idiot having a loose mouth. Seriously, he's going too far now! The IPL was pretty unique at the beginning, but with all these unnecessary remarks and weird ideas, Modi is slowly screwing up the whole damn thing. What a pity!

Good on him. Modi didn't care about what was going on in the ICL before, so why the sudden interest. If you don't chuck Gibbs and Warne out, don't chuck Cairns out. You can't have one rule for some, and another rule for ex-ICL players.
