The Asian T20 Challenge is a whole new initiative by ACC, which is going to start for the first time in Kolkata. Its a fight between four test playing nations of Asia, India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. For the first time, it has been scheduled in only one venue, Eden Gardens, Kolkata. ACC Chief Ijaz Butt said," The tournament is mainly being conducted for charity, and the money collected will be given to various charity based foundations all over Asia. We've decided to make Kolkata's Eden Gardens as venue for the total tournament keeping security concerns of Pakistani players.

Eden Gardens was decided to be the venue for the first edition of Asian T20 Cup.

Many people of Kolkata were shocked to listen this as Eden Gardens never hosted such a big event. Eden Gardens, the Asian cricket stadium with highest capacity was all set to rock with the simple concept "Hit Out or Get out". Eden Gardens, which was put down for renovation, was back to its strength and was installed with two new extra stands, which made accommodation of 100,000 people possible. With Kolkata people not even hosting one T20i match, were excited about this news and were eager to experience the t20i taste.

The tournament CEO Mr. Shashank Manohar said," Well, to have uniformity, for the first time, we've decided to have a particular pattern for their uniforms and all stuffs. The tournament will go on like traditional test cricket, and we've planned to run this with all the formalities, which go on in test cricket."

Four Teams... One passion...

Expect More drama!

I am expecting a solid build up from this story unlike others where some unrealistic events took place. Forget the past, looking forward for a good future storyline from this. Lets see. :thumbs

It's a good start, but I'm sure no chairman would ever say something like that.

Yeah, I know it, but I wanted to express that it all the things will be uniformly done, for which I said that.

@Suren Bhai: Now PCCS' T20 engine is working like a gem. Only thing I'm going to change from Australian Journey story is not going for commentary, but just an over by over update like what JC's doing:).

Indian side announced their 15 man squad for the Asian T20 Cup-2010. The Indian selectors sacked out Ravindra Jadeja due to his lacklusture performance and gave chance to Sreesanth, who was doing well. Virender Sehwag was all fit, which meant that Murali Vijay had to step down for Virender Sehwag. Surprisingly, Robin Uthappa was picked in place of Dinesh Karthik. As its T20, Sachin Tendulkar will not be playing. Yuvraj Singh was dropped due to fitness problems, although Yuvi assured that he would be ready to play after couple of matches. In his place, Ambati Rayudu was named in the squad. Piyush Chawla was given a chance to prove himself. Ravichandran Ashwin, the super economist was selected in for Pragyan Ojha, who was busy in his marriage. Ashoke Dinda, the Bengali boy, was named in the side after his outstanding performance in IPL.

Missed out narrowly:
Saurabh Tiwary was the first in the list of missed out. The main reason for him not getting selected was his fitness problems, which kept him away from getting national call up. Next of course in Manish Pandey, who has been performing like a gem all the way. He missed out narrowly mainly due to Jacques Kallis, who was playing for orange cap in later stages of IPL, which meant that Manish had to take risks, and get out soon. But of course, Jacques Kallis gave many fast scoring tips to Manish, which he din't follow properly and wasted his wicket. Manoy Tiwary is another word, which can be seen here. He had great tournament of IPL in initial stages, but failed in later stages of tournament.

Kris Srikanth, the chief selectors had something to say.
Well, its a T20i tournament, on which we're not gonna take these performances as the base for a particular player's talent. Its just Hit out or get out type format, which just needs luck. Yeah, Dinesh has been dropped, but there is another huge reason for dropping him. He's going to lead India A In UK, for which we've kept him out here. Getting some experience on English turf with second level team is something better when you compare to represent nation in T20i games on home soil.

On the other hand, Skipper Dhoni said:
Well, its an important tournament for us to get back on track. Especially, when you have a huge defeat in World class tournament, you'll need to have a win which can make up the mind for future. After our exit in 2009 edition of World Cup in UK, we had a win in West Indies, which improved our confidence a bit. We have to win this and regain our winning momentum.

So, Indian Squad, announced. Everything was getting ready for this huge tournament.

Cricket Sri Lanka announced their 14 man squad for the Asian T20 cup-2010. Kumara Sangakkara was rested along with Sanath Jayasuriya. Tilakeratne Dilshan was to lead the side, whereas Mahela Jayawardena was named in the team as a player. Sources said that Mahela rejected the captaincy offer, when selectors gave him first priority. Team was looking bit weak, but as it was T20, even Bangladesh could emerge winners. No major changes were made except resting Jayasuriya and Sangakkara. Rest all was a similar T20 World cup 2010 team.

Dilshan was all set to lead the Sri Lankan side for the Asian T20 cup.

Sri Lankan regular skipper Kumara Sangakkara said:
Well, I've requested for some rest for myself. Dilshan is a good captain. He turns out to be a man with bit hypertension at pressure times. But after this, we hope he could get out of that trouble. With the Likes of Mahela Jayawardena, Dilshan, Malinga, Mendis, Mathews, Thushara, Welegedra, I'm pretty confident that Sri Lanka are still favorites without myself and Jayasuriya.

Sri lankan stand in skipper Dilshan said:
Well, its a good challenge for me at this moment. I'd like to do my best and as said by Sanga, I behave like a person with hypertension at times, and thats what actually happened when I was named the captain for the T20 match against India in January 2009. I hope I get rid of that and be a good competitor for Sanga's captaincy:p

So, No Sangakkara, No Jayasuriya in Sri Lankan Team. Even after that, Sangakkara feels that Sri Lankans are favorites. So the time will have to answer whether its true or false.
