India VS Pakistan,
First T20i,
Asian T20 Cup 2010,
Live from Eden Gardens,
Kolkata.

Virender Sehwag was all set to face the first delivery of the Asian T20 cup whereas, Mohammad Sami was about to bowl the first ball of the Asian T20 cup. The crowd turned up at high numbers and it was a full house before the start of match. A huge crowd of 100,000 turned out at Eden Gardens. Umpires Rudi Kortzen and Simon Taufel took up their positions. Crowd started to be at its peak cheering for Indian opener, Virender Sehwag.

Over 1:
Bowler: Mohammad Sami.
Bowling from High Court End.
A good start for Team India. Leaving the first ball alone, he gave the strike to Gambhir by sending the ball towards long off, which was considered as bit unusual Virender Sehwag Style start. Gambhir, on the other side was off the mark in style by picking up two quick runs. What followed was a controversial ball, which Gauti left alone thinking it was a wide. Umpire Kortzen decided that it was not a wide ball, which meant that India already had 2 dot balls in their quota. Gautam Gambhir played his trademark flick, which cleared the mid on and went for a fantastic boundary. What followed was a single, which Kept Gauti on strike.

Score: 8/0 from 1.0 overs (RR: 8.00)
G Gambhir 7* (4b 1x4)
V Sehwag 1* (2b)
M Sami: 1.0-0-8-0

Over 2:
Bowler: Abdul Razzaq.
Bowling from pavilion end.
Abdul Razzaq starts off with a wide to Gautam Gambhir. In the next ball, Gautam Gambhir runs for another couple of runs, which was hit towards wide long on. The shot was not much powerful, but the ball made the long on work a bit to stop it from reaching the boundary. It was followed by a risky single, where Gautam Gambhir hit the ball straight back to Razzaq in a flash. Razzaq being confused made sure that the ball din’t go beyond him. But the ball being hit hard, was deflected towards mid on, which gave Gauti room to run. Gautam being fast runner, got in time. Sehwag looked bit out of form by not scoring any runs of the next couple of deliveries, as Razzaq implemented his line-length variation technique, and was successful. Then, Sehwag and Gambhir scored two singles off last two balls of that over, to make it 6 off that over.

Over 3:
Bowler: Mohammad Sami.
Bowling from High Court End.
Gambhir played a perfect straight drive, which went for a boundary to start off the over. Then, as usual, he sent the ball towards wide long on and picked up double. It was followed by couple of singles from Gauti and Viru respectively. Then, there came a huge appeal for LBW, for which umpire Rudi Kortzen was not satisfied. It was close, but when seen with Hawk Eye, it was assumed that the ball went slightly out side the off stump, which meant that Gambhir was not out. Then, Mohammad Sami and Shahzaib Hasan went for another huge appeal for LBW. Hasan, the wicketkeeper being busy in appealing, did not stop the ball, which resulted in couple of runs. Umpire signalled it a Leg Bye.

Score: 32/0 from 4.0 overs (RR: 8.00)
V Sehwag 11* (12b 2x4)
G Gambhir 18* (12b 2x4)
A Razzaq: 2.0-0-14-0

Over 4:
Bowler: Abdul Razzaq.
Bowling from Pavilion End.
Razzaq started off that over with couple of dot balls. Sehwag completely looked out of form this day. But the boundary off the next ball over mid off was the answer from Sehwag for all the people who thought that he was out of form. It was followed by another dot ball. But after that, he blasted off! KABOOM!!!!! The ball goes high in the air, but falls just short of boundary, which meant that he got only 4. But this boundary was something special for Virender Sehwag because it fetched his 15,000th run in his international career. He celebrated this feat with Gautam Gambhir and waves his bat towards crowd. He tries to hit the ball again, but the ball goes straight to fielder, Shahid Afridi. It was great piece of fielding by Afridi, which meant that Sehwag and Gambhir couldn’t even run a single.

Over 5:
Bowler: Mohammad Sami
Bowling from High Court End.
Gambhir started off with a couple as he sent the ball towards third man. It was a slow ball and Gambhir just deflected it. Both the batsman ran quickly and got two runs. It was followed by a single, over Long on. Sehwag hits the ball over mid off, but the ball doesn’t carry for a boundary. The batsmen here take 2 runs easily. Sehwag leaving two balls alone, takes a single off the last ball and keeps the strike.

Score: 38/0 from 5.0 overs (RR: 7.60)

Over 6:
Bowler: Abdul Razzaq.
Bowling from Pavilion End.
Sehwag takes single off the first ball. Gambhir get a huge blow by getting a deadly bouncer. He just leaves the ball alone, without poking. Then, he takes slight revenge by hitting a boundary over extra cover. It was followed y couple of singles by Gauti and Viru. Gautam Gambhir, hitting the last ball for another boundary over long off, ends the over.

Score: 49/0 from 6.0 overs (RR: 8.17)
G Gambhir 30* (18b 4x4)

End of powerplay.

Over 7:
Bowler: Mohammad Sami.
Bowling from High Court End.
Sami appeals for an LBW, which gets turned down by the umpire Kortzen. Then, Sehwag leaves the next ball alone. He takes single off the next ball and it was followed by a wide by Sami. Then, KABOOM! It was followed by a huge six from Gambhir’s bat over Wide Long on. The ball went 81 meters distance, which was the first six of the Asian T20 Cup. Gambhir takes a single and Sehwag ducks the next ball.

Mahammad Sami ends up his 4 overs by exceeding 31 runs off them.

Score: 58/0 from 7.0 overs (RR: 8.29)
V Sehwag 17* (22b 2x4)
G Gambhir 37* (20b 4x4 1x6)
M Sami: 4.0-0-31-0

Over 8:
Bowler: Abdul Razzaq.
Bowling from Pavilion End.
Gambhir and Sehwag start off by taking a single each, which was followed by a dot by Gambhir. Gambhir takes a risky single, where Sehwag was targeted. Rudi Kortzen, the leg umpire refers that to the Third Umpire Billy Doctrove, who displays “Not Out” in the LED screen. Sehwag leaves thenext ball alone and after which, he gets a single and keeps the strike.

Abdul Razzaq ends his 4 overs by conceding just 29 runs off it.

A Razzaq: 4.0-0-29-0

Over 9:
Bowler: Shahid Afridi.
Bowling from High Court End.
Sehwag hits the ball towards long off. They get a easy single. But misfield by Mohammad Sami allows another run. Sehwag gets off the strike by taking a single. Gambhir goes clueless for the next couple of deliveries, which fortunately missed the stumps by an inch. Then, Gambhir deflects the ball towards third man and they run two for it. Gambhir ends up the over by hitting a boundary over fine leg. He just places the bat and puts some power on it.

Over 10:
Bowler: Saeed Ajmal.
Bowling from Pavilion End.
Saeed Ajmal starts off couple of singles, one each to Sehwag and Gambhir. It was followed by a dot ball and then, Sehwag gets off the strike with a single. Gambhir went front foot to loft the ball, but the ball doesn't connect. Sahazaib Hasan's fails to stump properly as he hit the wickets with his hands without taking the ball. So, Gambhir was safe as the ball was not seen in the stumping scenario.

So, with India going at 7.5 an over, can they score above 160, as Sourav said? Time has to answer it.

Story is going solid. Update was nice and I like the different sort of scorecard. Just need to work a bit on writing as your description of the overs is pretty boring, I mean it doesn't push me to read on and on. Overall nice work.

Thank you for your feedback user, BTW, can you gimme a small example on how should it be?
Let us suppose the first over.
Over details:
0.1 Sami to Sehwag: No run.
0.2 Sami to Sehwag: Single.
0.3 Sami to Gambhir: 2 runs
0.4 Sami to Gambhir: No run
0.5 Sami to Gambhir: 4 runs
0.6 Sami to Gambhir: 1 run

Can you kindly spare few minutes of time and explain briefly on how to get a build up cos PCCS is not featured with commentary yet.

I just make things up to be honest, for example:

Sami began his over well with one that just held its line - the Indians were warned to be wary of his outswingers, but with this one he got Sehwag to play inside the line and was rewarded with a dot ball. He troubled him further with another ball which went straight on, this time Sehwag got an inside edge on it and it flew down to long leg for a single. Gambhir, however, looked far more comfortable against Sami, who struggled to vary his deliveries because he had to push the ball across the left hander. A delicate late cut brought Gambhir 2 runs, and a cracking pull shot over square leg, 4 more. He rounded off the over by hitting one powerfully out to the cover sweeper and ran a comfortable single. A promising over from Sami, but Gambhir has looked very assured thus far.

It's quite long but you can leave out details and don't have to describe every ball. Just give some balls a bit of description as it paints more of a picture of how the players are going where the mental advantage lies. I think the key is to not just describe the outcome of the ball but also the little battles between batsman and bowler.

Nice efforts with presentation though, kiu man!

JC has done it, I think. No need to describe each and every ball. Just make sure you put in something interesting wherever it is needed. Try to make it exciting for the readers. After you write just read through what you have come up with and that will tell you how good it sounds as a 'reader'.

Which is why you don't use a simulator for a story, use C07 or somethin
Man, I can't trust my C07/AC09. It just happens like what happened to the Australian T20 Story (Match against Pakistan).

Thanks a lot mate, now, I've got a good idea on how to develop a thing.:)

Yeah, I do it regularly, but from now on, I'll do as if I'm reading the story by some other, so that I can come to know what the mistakes are:).

Nice work going here Binnu. The presentation and writing is much better than your previous stories. The feedbacks suggested by JC and User will surely help you to improve this story. You can also have a look at the sticky thread "Hall Of Fame”. It contains some excellent stories. Nice going Binnu, keep it up. :)

75 in 10 overs a fine score by India. Sehwag is yet to fire, so I won't be surprised if India still reaches a score of 170 to 180. Pakistan has young players in their batting line ups and Indian team bowlers don't know most of them which is an advantage for Pakistan. So a score of 170 to 180 against Pakistan should be good.

^I bet I wasn't the first to do something like that. IMO it's quite a nice way to do it, it just takes a bit of effort, and time.

India were looking pretty strong after 10 overs, by scoring 75 runs without any loss of wickets, in which Gambhir contributed 47 runs just off 30 balls. Sehwag , on other side looked bit out of form. He scored 24 off 30 balls. Saeed Ajmal, who just started his spell in the 10th over started off in stylish manner by bowling at perfect areas and giving just 4 runs. Now, lets check out how much will India score after 20 overs.

Over 11:
Bowler: Shahid Afridi.
Bowling from High Court End.

Afridi started off well but was hammered for a boundary in second ball by Virender Sehwag over Wide long off. Sehwag just couldn?t play the 3rd ball, which made him leave that alone to the wicketkeeper Shahzaib Hasan. The Delhi duo ?Viru- Gauti? scored quick singles to end the 10th over.

Score: 83/0 from 11.0 overs (RR: 7.55)
V Sehwag 30* (34b 3x4)
G Gambhir 49* (32b 5x4 1x6)
S Afridi: 2.0-0-17-0

Over 12:
Bowler: Saeed Ajmal
Bowling from Pavilion End.

The Double D?s (Delhi Daredevis & Delhi Duo) started rotating the strike as Ajmal was bowling at right areas. Single from Gambhir in the second ball made him celebrate his half century. It was great effort by him cause his regular partner Viru couldn?t explode. Gautam Gambhir started taking some risks but was successful for some extent as he got couple of couples followed by a single in that over.

Score: 91/0 from 12.0 overs (RR: 7.58)
G Gambhir 55* (36b 5x4 1x6)
V Sehwag 32* (36b 3x4)
S Ajmal: 2.0-0-12-0

Over 13:
Bowler: Shahid Afridi.
Bowling from High Court End.

Pakistan skipper Afridi bowled will in 13th over. The batsmen couldn?t find any other option rather than rotating the strike. Sehwag risked but got paid. He was almost out, when he hit the ball straight back to Afridi, but he had just 0.15 seconds to react, in which, he couldn?t make that a complete catch. But a wide in that over made it 6 from that over, even after a dot ball.

Score: 97/0 from 13.0 overs (RR: 7.46)
G Gambhir 58* (39b 5x4 1x6)
V Sehwag 34* (39b 3x4)
S Afridi: 3.0-0-23-0

Over 14:
Bowler: Saeed Ajmal
Bowling from High Court End.

Couple of good overs by Pakistan made them relax a bit, but Gambhir made them restless soon after they got that thought. He banged Ajmal for couple of boundaries in first three, with the one extra being a dot ball. He then got a risky couple and then, the duo took two quick singles.

Score: 109/0 from 14.0 overs (RR: 7.79)
V Sehwag 35* (40b 3x4)
G Gambhir 69* (44b 7x4 1x6)
S Ajmal: 3.0-0-24-0

Over 15:
Bowler: Shahid Afridi.
Bowling from Pavilion End.

Sehwag blasted out with a boundary off the first ball and then, the dup ran like pair of Usain Bolt. They ran for back to back couples and, then Viru showed sigh of being calmed down by leaving the next ball alone. The duo took quick singles to end up the 15th over.

Shahid Afridi completes his quota of 4 overs by conceding 33 runs of it without any wicket

Sehwag hits the ball for a four.

Score: 119/0 from 15.0 overs (RR: 7.93)
G Gambhir 70* (45b 7x4 1x6)
V Sehwag 44* (45b 4x4)
S Afridi: 4.0-0-33-0

Over 16:

Bowler: Saeed Ajmal.
Bowling from Pavilion End.

Gambhir started off with a boundary, and continued it with a single. Sehwag continued what Gambhir planned. Even though he ducked the first ball he faced, but he went for a boundary, followed by risky couple. That bought up his half century. It was a good performance by Sehwag, after slow start by him. He took a single to keep the strike.
Saeed Ajmal looked a good when he bowled the 10th over. But he ended up his spell being the costliest of all.

Score: 131/0 from 16.0 overs (RR: 8.19)
V Sehwag 51* (49b 5x4)
G Gambhir 75* (47b 8x4 1x6)
S Ajmal: 4.0-0-36-0

Over 17:

Bowler: Mohammad Asif.
Bowling from High Court End.

Who expected the twist here? Mohammad Asif took a wicket of his first ball of Asia cup, by beating Sehwag with deadly pace. Sehwag was clean bowled, trying to play a shot over mid off. Crowd at Kolkata gave Sehwag a standing ovation. Archana Vijaya had a chat with Viru after he got out at the boundary line.

Archana Vijaya: Well ladies and Gentlemen, here is the batsman, who got out just now. Viru, what actually should be a good score on this surface?

Virender Sehwag: Around 160-170 should be a good score. 180 safe, but is too high to expect in my opinion as pitch is bit slow.

Archana Vijay: Great partnership with Gauti, your partner right from Ranji trophy. How actually do you feel?

Virender Sehwag: Well, its a pleasure playing along with Gauti, and this is a memorable one and I hope that I can get few more of these type.

Archana Vijaya: Well, thank you for your time here Sehwag, good luck for the match.

Virender Sehwag: Thanks a lot.

Next Batsman: Suresh Raina.

KABOOM! Raina started off with a huge six over Extra cover. Later in that over, he scored a risky couple after which he blasted off with a six over Wide long on.

Mohammad Asif celebrates the wicket of Virender Sehwag.

Score: 145/1 from 17.0 overs (RR: 8.53)
S Raina 14* (5b 2x6)
G Gambhir 75* (47b 8x4 1x6)
M Asif: 1.0-0-14-1

Over 18:

Bowler: Mohammad Aamir.
Bowling from Pavilion End.

Kabooooooom, it was another huge six from Gautam Gambhir. The batsmen?s mentality was all set to just keep on slog as there were just a few balls left in their innings. But Mohammad Aamir?s perfect bowling made the batsmen just restrict for singles in rest of the over.

Score: 156/1 from 18.0 overs (RR: 8.67)
G Gambhir 83* (51b 8x4 2x6)
S Raina 17* (7b 2x6)
M Aamer: 1.0-0-11-0

Over 19:

Bowler: Mohammad Asif.
Bowling from High Court End.

Asif started off well by conceding just couple of runs in first four balls. He then removed Gautam Gambhir as Gambhir fell in Asif?s trap. It was a plumb, and the umpire Taufel din?t had any objection in raising his finger. Gautam refused to talk with Archana Vijaya due to the shortage of time as it was high time in Indian innings.

Next Batsman: Robin Uthappa.

Robin Uthappa started off with a couple and kept out of strike.
Mohammad Asif had to end up his bowling for just 2 overs as only an over was left in that innings. He was costly in the first over, but proved to be a miser in his second over.

Score: 160/2 from 19.0 overs (RR: 8.42)
R Uthappa 2* (1b)
S Raina 18* (10b 2x6)
M Asif: 2.0-0-18-2

2czr2c2.jpg

Mohammad Asif appeals for LBW.

Over 20:

Bowler: Mohammad Aamir.
Bowing from Pavilion End.

Suresh Raina was completely beaten by the pace of the Mohammad Aamir in the opening delivery, but Raina managed to push the ball hard so that it reaches the boundary. It was a four as Asif just couldn?t stop it. But in the following delivery, Raina tried to go frontfoot and the ball being damn slower one, Rania just missed it by a mile. Shahzaib Hasan was quick behind the wickets, and knocked the bails off before Rania came in, which meant that Raina was out. Even though Leg umpire referred to the third umpire, but it was crystal clear that Raina couldn?t make it.
Raina has a quick word with Archana Vijaya:

Archana Vijaya: Well Raina, Three balls remaining, what should be scored off it in your opinion?

Suresh Raina: Only word I?m gonna say at the moment is extract the best. The pitch has become unpredictable, and dunno how ball?s gettin? to you. So, all I say is extract the best, let it be three 6es or 3 singles.

Archana Vijaya: Well thankyou for your time Raina, wish you good luck.

Suresh Raina: Thanks a lot.

Next Batsman: MS Dhoni.
MS Dhoni started off with a single, which meant that the strike was with Robin Uthappa. Aamir delivers a wide, which adds up one crucial run to the total. Then Uthappa and Dhoni run for two singles, and make the score 168-3 in the quota of 20 overs.
