Out or Not Out?

Out or Not Out?

not out because the bail has to be dislodged and on the floor i think, its like when the stumps get hit and the bails just jump up and land, the umpires dont give that out lol

But that implies that it only becomes 'out' when the bail touches the floor. Look at stumpings and run outs, they are out the instant the wicket is broken and a bail is dislodged, regardless of where it ends up.

As a bowler I feel the pain of the poor bloke who I think should have had you :p Sorry, but I tend to side with the bowler :p

guess the answer is here somewhere ;)

LAW 28 THE WICKET IS DOWN
1. Wicket put down
(a) The wicket is put down if a bail is completely removed from
the top of the stumps
, or a stump is struck out of the ground by
(i) the ball.
(ii) the striker's bat, whether he is holding it or has let go of
it.
(iii) the striker's person or by any part of his clothing or
equipment becoming detached from his person.
(iv) a fielder, with his hand or arm, providing that the ball is
held in the hand or hands so used, or in the hand of the
arm so used.
The wicket is also put down if a fielder pulls a stump out
of the ground in the same manner.
(b) The disturbance of a bail, whether temporary or not, shall not
constitute its complete removal from the top of the stumps
, but if a
bail in falling lodges between two of the stumps this shall be
regarded as complete removal.

Exactly why I thought i was out remember im a bowler who bats a bit

and Kev seems to have solved the case that im not out would anyone dispute those rulings? and Kev can you find the seperate run out rule about when the bails move just to compare

The rule for the wicket being put down would apply in the same way to a runout.

All I can say now is...Griffo your one lucky young man!

How many were you on when this happened? Because I know you went on to make your highest ever score;)

I was on 20 odd but I did create my wn luck when I hit the ball I hit it hard and it just kept managing to find the boundary, I might keep you updated with how I go this season

during a run out if one side of the bail is up but one side still touching when the batsman gets over the popping crease then he is not out as it is still touching, so if this case if the bail did a little jump and landed as it did, but became removed from the stumps then your out, if however id did a little jump up but kind of slid across with some part of the bail staying in touch with the stump then your not out.

as the second is more unlikely id of given you out.

but to be honest, as your an aussie griffo id of given you out no matter what happened lol

Luckily your English and your opinion is null and void :p

Wouldn't that constitute a temporary removal and thus according to rule 28 it would be not out.

oh yeah suppose so, so yeah it should of been given out lol poor bowler, what grade of cricket was it, was it club umpires or a pannel, if it was club they probaly didnt no what to do so just gave it not out ?

Both umpires disagreed, ours said not out and theirs said out but i think they just said out because i was dominating them lol not with any prior knowledge

surely someone can send this into cricinfo
