That is what bothers me, a 120 point that India got awarded is not equal to what England or Australia will be awarded after winning the series. Also its not of the same quality. Not against India and the win they had against West Indies, it was sheer dominance but things are just not correct.

We should have a standard 3 match series except for Ashes or India England which is 5 match.

According to me this is how the Test Championship should be

  1. Each team plays the other twice home and away.
  2. Each series consist of 3 test matches, so each team plays 6 matches against the same opposition home and away.
  3. Instead of 2 year cycle, have the championship for a 4 year period to accommodate home and away.

Meanwhile Afghanistan, Ireland, Zimbabwe and a 4th team battle out against each other and other teams in those 4 years and are ranked 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th accordingly.

The bottom two teams in World Test Championship gets relegated and top two in last 4 gets promoted to test championship.

This will give test cricket its due respect.

All of this convolutions just seem like a way to avoid an India-Pakistan series which isn’t happening anyways in the current political climate.

I can say if an India Pakistan match happens in India then there would be some ugly scenes that would be seen from some people who could bring disgrace to the majority of fans out there. It is better we don't look at it right now. Especially after that Article 370 and 35A of Indian constitution thing.

Zimbabwe were kicked out.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has suspended Zimbabwe for failing to ensure there is no government interference in its running of the sport. ICC funding has been withdrawn and the country will be barred from participating at ICC events.

Updated index and Top Scorer and Wicket Taker stats post.

The 5th test will be interesting since if Australia wins, they get 24 points and move to 2nd place and if England wins they will equal Australia's points, so although Australia retained Ashes, the series ending in 2-2 would give context to WTC. A draw would mean Australia, Sri Lanka, New Zealand tied at 60 points.

Updated the index after two matches played by India and South Africa. India take up a solid lead with 200 points already :lol. What a joke this point system is, nothing to take any credit away from the way India has played but the point system is flawed

I agree to it but is it going to change if we constantly keep repeating it ? For the time being let us not look into it much and crack our heads out. I feel like it would be a better thing to do. :p

There is actually a positive in this flawed points system. I think teams would now give more importance to winning matches and scoring points so in a way it gives some meaning to Test Cricket.

The point system might be flawed, but honestly for the first iteration it is not a bad concept. For a format that is dying because of low audience engagement, I think this point system balances the points distribution with revenue generation with home-away games quite well, or rather to the best of its ability. And one has to understand - you can't make it too complicated, else the general cricket viewer might find it too hard to follow (D/L anyone?). This is a fairly simple points system keeping into mind all the critical factors.

Exactly what I wanted to say in my posts earlier in this thread and General Cricket Discussion thread regarding it.

A good concept for starters, however the points system is definitely flawed. While many of you seem to have agreed upon that, I don't know how many had the opportunity to witness the 'Asian Test Championship' in 1999/2000. It was quite a novel concept at that time and the points were allotted on the basis of the team's performance. I would love to see something similar being implemented for the WTC in its future iterations.

Points aside, the ICC should've paid attention to the 'Relegation' and 'Promotion' aspects. This would have necessitated a creation of a 'Two Tier System' which would've paved the way for more relevant and keenly contested games. Establishment of such a structure would make the likes of Irish and Afghan cricket more relevant and competitive. It is also an opportunity for the ICC to expand the game and perhaps not miss out on losing nations like Zimbabwe and Kenya.

Did we ever work out why the current New Zealand England series doesn't count for this? At least in a way that makes sense
