We have Bharat Sarkar, its only 1 game. We dont need a keeper.. we could have taken Sarfaraz Khan

I disagree with not taking a keeper, all it takes is one injury on the eve of the game or in the morning and we’re left with Rohit donning the gloves. In any case I don’t think Kishan is keeping or playing unless Bharat has a niggle.

If India wanted Sarfaraz Khan in there, they would have picked him a couple of series ago. They clearly don’t rate him as a serious enough option (which I obviously disagree with).

I am fine with Kishan in the WTC. Saha would have been my 1st choice, but seeing as how he was unceremoniously dumped last year, don't expect Dravid & Co.to invite him.

Kishan is seen as a like for like replacement for Pant. Mind you, Kishan is a better keeper than Pant for sure. If India needs the attacking option,he may give them one too. Anyhow, with the news that Pant may not be able to keep this spot is simply going to hotten up over the next 2-3 years.

Saha was an absolute no go practically despite a decent Ranji season (the likes of Bharat, Samson and Kishan didn’t keep for their Ranji teams where as Saha did for Tripura despite also being their captain and possibly one of their most skilled batters on paper, shows his passion and dedication) due to the reasons you’ve mentioned. It’s a shame, I’d have liked to see him one more time but between him and Ishant I don’t mind us not sticking with players past their peak and being more proactive with turnover.

Kishan is definitely not a better keeper than Pant, Pant was close to world class before he got injured, those early days of him struggling under pressure have already warped all of our minds. Kishan’s got a long way to go before he can be placed in the same category. I don’t think Kishan will amount to anything significant in test cricket, his technique doesn’t look good enough to the naked eye and he doesn’t have the mentality to grind for runs.

Pant’s return may be a long time away judging from his posts. I said earlier before the unfortunate incident that India should be making him a specialist batter given how good he was at five alongside a proper batter instead of the tail and I hope this turns out to be a second wind in his career when he does return.

Especially in Test cricket, one needs a stable head. That's why I am quite against blooding in newbies in the Test setup every and then. The way I see it, Rohit will liekly relinquish the Test captaincy after the WTC(irrespective of the result)-leaves us again without a leader. With both Iyer and Pant out, makes no sense to install another person as the captain.

In the near future, I believe, India may turn towards the 2007 formula where Kumble led the team until they found a viable replacement. The 3 persons who immediately come to mind are- Rahane, Ashwin and Pujara. Whosoever get the nod, needs to do it for 2 years and develop Iyer/ Pant as the next leader. That, seems to be the only way forth.

As for the keeper's spot- I expect Upendra Yadav in the national reckoning soon; unless KS Bharat plays a couple of Pant-esque innings. Anyhow as aforementioned, this spot will be contested hotly in the coming years, across formats. In the longer format, India would do well to have a full time keeper. Expect for T20s, they will go with part-time keepers like KLR, Sarfaraz, etc.

One thing I seriously dont understand about the Indian setup- how does one make the transition from India A to India? The number of players who have turned out regularly for India A, never seem to make it to the national reserves. Ditto with those who captained India A. In the past, we have seen Iyer, Panchal, Easwaran lead India A, however, these guys never seem to make the captaincy cut. Why so?

Lastly, can anyone also shed some light on how the bowling reserves are selected? On basis of what? Last year, for the one off Machester test, we had Arzan Nagwaswala sent over. No one knew who he was. To be honest, no one know who he is ,even today. With Mukesh, again, they've unearthed a similar structure. Why do these reserve net bowlers get so much media attention?

Someone I don't see that happening specifically for the reason mentioned in the last part of your sentence.

My hunch, left arm bowler practice - Trent Boult in the WTC and Sam Curran in the England squad in 2021. Natarajan went during the Australia tour and ended up playing because of the injuries.

On the basis of being good bowlers, I would think.

It seems random, mate These bowlers change every now and then. We don't hear about them all Ranji season and all of a sudden they are in as reserves.

He is injury prone and with the CWC2023 coming up,I doubt he and Virat would end up playing any Tests after the WTC.

I feel Virat will continue playing tests. He is fit and loves that mode of cricket.

Virat will be sidelined. I think the Indian management will look for those who are in prime form.

Virat's attitude and dealings with the board will bring about his downfall. To an extent, it has already begun.

Finally, the richest cricket team gets a kit sponsor of some pedigree. Adidas is India's kit sponsor. Hope it's a long term deal and I hope the three stripes on that jersey will be bold and in our national colours. Really hope we go back to the baby blue or the deep navy. The current IndiGo colour is really an eye sore personally.

I am already liking the changes that Adidas is doing. This looks pleasing and really cool! Some expectations built up, on how the ODI and T20 kits will be.
