Well they have had 5 years since the first edition came out... and some things have actually gotten worse. The fact we can't choose stadiums in world championship mode and the fact balls bounce too high is really rather silly after all this time. There's not really an excuse for basic things...
In fairness sometimes it is difficult to define what is wrong with awkward animations - but many are awkward. Legside and pull shots especially lack elegance and lack a natural flowing rhythm. Even front foot forward defensive blocks happen suddenly at the last minute and without natural rhythm...
A friend of mine who is a software engineer is convinced that BA don't really understand the interrelated mechanics of the game. He has seen it before in projects that he has worked on. That's why patches fix one thing then screw up another.
It also raises the question of if anyone actually...
I have uploaded three fictional small county grounds suitable for retro games. Search Hinckley Oakham or Barnstaple.
I got fed up of trying to replicate real grounds due to editor limitations (I have uploaded Grace Road and Chesterfield although the pavillions aren't great).
So say for batting, is there a guide to skill scaling somewhere? For batsmen I have assumed it is something like this:
80+ World class / legend
70+ International
60+ Good county player / Good Associate nation
50+ County journeyman / Moderate Associate nation
40+ Minor counties
I'll do Derbyshire next but it will probably be a few days as I'm away for work. I'm also trying to source more 60s cricket annuals to get better pictures. There is not much on the Web for the lesser known players.
Issue is still there after latest patch... together with fielders staying outside the circle, fielders leaving the ball, keepers running away from the ball, close fielders allowing easy singles... I could go on.
Hampshire champion county of 1961 now uploaded. It includes two of the first players of West Indian descent to win the championship - Danny Livingstone and Roy Marshall.
I suspect they've deliberately created slower fielders and fast batsmen so people can push for ones in one-day games. In previous BA games it was sometimes very difficult to get singles with the field up, leading to player frustration. Bottom line is that the batsman doesn't really have enough...
Great work. Yes, county sides changed more slowly in those days and few players switched teams. People downloading can always add a couple of extra players for their favoured year - so if you want a 1960 or 1961 Surrey line up you really just need to add Peter May and Alex Bedser to your...
I have now shared an England 1961 and a Lancashire 1961. Hopefully will do champions Hants next.
In case anyone is interested I have also shared several fictional county grounds / outgrounds that have a retro 1960s feel with minimal advertising etc (Hinckley, Barnstaple, Oakham). A few weeks...
I reversed one large scoreboard to similate the TV broadcast platforms behind the sightscreen. The stands are a compromise to fill the appropriate area - do feel free to have a play if you can improve it.
I just wish the editor had more flexibility and more content...
Contact the expat British, Aussie or South Asian communities - many will have community clubs or online forums. That's what I did when living abroad. We set up a new cricket club and the next year we were playing in the national league. It is hard work but very rewarding.
I am just using ones on the Academy. The kits were very plain in those days. I have taken player details from the Playfair cricket annuals and team photos. The main problem is that there are few 60s style haircuts in the editor so most are an approximation. I have tried to get the skills broadly...
Just in case anyone else is interested in 60s cricket I have uploaded a 1961 Leicestershire and 1961 Yorkshire. I will do a few more counties when I have time.
