If you're really keen to play a cricket game and can get over a fairly sizeable list of annoyances/bugs then you can definitely have fun with it, as people here will attest to.
The seemingly random nature of batting input -> shot selection makes batting far too frustrating to be enjoyed...
Well, I think that releasing the game in the state it was, which leads to such negative reviews, does hurt the reputation of the game and series moving forward.
But okay, what is done is done. Hopefully we can move on with this next patch. I haven't played the game except for a couple after...
Right now yes. Three patches in on the second version of the game, a couple of years after the first one came out, and there are huge game-breaking issues. Perhaps they are tolerable for others but with no many quality video games out there I struggle to justify the time to play this, which is...
Quite confident. I took a few overs out of the game where I stopped playing seriously and just tested the stick position and corresponding shot.
There are still many deadzones and an extreme sensitivity between say a cover drive and a weird back away cut shot.
When you have the analogue sticks facing upwards to a yorker just outside off from a spinner and your player does a pull shot and gets hit on the toe...
...yeah.
How do you play it against a spinner? I see to either play a straight drive, a drive to mid wicket or a bizarre looking pull shot. I had mid on back and it was looking so delicious and no matter what I tried I could never hit it.
Any tips?
Finally got patch 3 and having a little play on PS4. Doing a 50 over game as Vic vs NSW. So far batted just 25 overs.
Pros:
- You get the odd great moment like a ripping outswinger that you played the right shot to but were just beaten.
- Played a leg glance off a 150 km/h Pat Cummings ball...
It didn't take long to find a nice video of an Indian batsman playing a leg glance to a ball pitched on off. Check out 5:55 in the above video. The commentators even note that the ball wasn't on leg stump but more more off/middle. Having a pull shot animation to a ball that full would look...
I cannot disagree with this more. I've played cricket since I was a little kid and it is very common for people to flick balls from middle/off stump to the leg side. It may be frowned upon by some coaches as it is an LBW risk but it is definitely very common. Indian players like Laxman with...
I think people forget what the PS2 looked like...
The game is odd. Sometimes it looks stunning and sometimes it's a bit jarring. I think it's more the (few) dodgy animations rather than raw graphical quality.
I think it's quite simple. The logic is that most people will get tired quickly of playing against randomly generated no name players and want to play against their childhood heroes in the state and international scene. 20 20 gets you there the quickest.
Although there is a bug in the commentary. When the ball pitches the commentator says "this will be overturned, that's pitching outside" despite the ball pitching harmlessly outside off.
