2014 World Cup Group D: Uruguay, Costa Rica, England, Italy

People thought the italy performance was a lot better than it actually was. People thought Uruguay would be worse than they were due to the costa rica performance. so a couple of years of somewhat realistic expectations were undone in about 4 days. Pretty funny to see all the england fans fuming...

2014 World Cup Group D: Uruguay, Costa Rica, England, Italy

Still don't really know what england were trying to do to get a goal. looked like hodgson just picked the front four and figured they'd get on with it.

    The Reintegration Thread

Cook has been a poor a captain. there's no arguing that. But Warne went after him early on armed with little more than an agenda and cook's cautious batting style. At the start of the home ashes warne had it out for cook. when really there was little evidence for that. a series win in India. A...

    My Batting Advice

Might start a new career playing off the back foot for comparison, my main guy now has really high front foot stats so would be silly to change now i think.

    My Batting Advice

I just play everything on the front foot as you can cut and pull on the front foot, so really there aren't any balls that demand you play them on the back foot. Only really short balls that are straight cause a problem when you have a stacked legside field so don't want to risk a pull shot...

2014 World Cup Group D: Uruguay, Costa Rica, England, Italy

I'd have him on the bench. I think you have to look at this world cup as a 13/14 man game with subs being vital. whether to start him or not seems really close. Not a lot between him and his rivals, however I think fresh off the bench he'd have a much bigger impact than those he's competing with...

England v Sri Lanka, Test Series (June 2014)

Who would you make captain? Distinct lack of credible candidates. besides with the coaching setup as it is the party line would remain the same in relation to the declarations.

England v Sri Lanka, Test Series (June 2014)

It makes a lot of sense given DRS's mandate is to remove howlers from the game and not to ensure every decision is perfect. Don't waste your reviews speculatively and then a bad decision won't cost you. The only issue is if reviews made in genuine good faith and not speculatively at all end...

England v Sri Lanka, Test Series (June 2014)

To be fair that was a shocking decision from the umpire. perfect example for why DRS is great.

2014 World Cup Group D: Uruguay, Costa Rica, England, Italy

I don't think it is. A top player will likely have at least 8 champions league campaigns. often a lot more. A lot of players will have only 2 shots at the world cup, often 3, very rarely 4. Two legged ties means it's harder for inferior sides to cause an upset, so the results are slightly...

England v Sri Lanka, Test Series (June 2014)

I think letting root bat on was definitely fine. we were scoring quickly at the time, the runs were going to be easier to get then than in the third innings or on day 4/5. I wouldn't have contemplated declaring until anderson came in, and even then would probably have just let him have a swing...

2014 World Cup Group D: Uruguay, Costa Rica, England, Italy

Yeh, he was given a tough/nigh on impossible job, but he still could have done a lot better. It wasn't just the lack of tracking back from the wide players though, the central midfielders did little to defend anything that wasn't straight through the middle. What's the most baffling thing...

It'd be fine if edges and wide deliveries beat the keeper when he is up as that would balance this out.
