They need to find a mode between attack and defence. Odd innings, though I think we bowled well.

I think any of them will do a good job, I'd go Finn, but you know Bresnan will be Mr Consistent, he always is.

I'd have gone for Taylor and it's an odd recall (has he even played a OD game since he was dropped?), he's a class player, but not sure on this one. He'll never fill the KP role, I suppose that's his biggest issue, something out of his control.

Looks like being a wet Test match (after a couple of weeks of some fair weather, it's gone wet and mild again). I really want to see Onions play, but I do with Finn too. I don't see them resting/dropping Broad. Re: Pollard, yup, should be worth a go, but WIndies need to sort out their issue...

And then Mark Vermuelen will come along and set them both on fire!

All of his part in it was his fault and no one else's. Welcome to responsibility and being an adult.

The Oval is a lovely ground and not too far from the tube stations.

James Taylor's century the other night was very impressive. From 60 off 59 to 115 off 77. Great knock, even if the bowling was abject at times.

Pollard has hardly played any FC games, 22 matches in 4 and a half years? Though, got to be worth a go given how Edwards is going. Powell (9 from 20) and Edwards (0 from 3) out for single figures already in the match at Grace Road. One of the friendliest attacks on the county. Powell seems to...

Ramps had 52 tests! Though he played in an era of good bowling attacks, he never lived up to his county record because I don't think he had the mental toughness and bottle for the international game. His domestic career is riddled with incidents which support this, indeed there was one this...

    Mohammad Amir meets the PCB

Shouldn't be allowed to play again, but anyway, I imagine this set of talks is going to be based around "If you're going to represent Pakistan again, we need you to do x, y & z"

That will stay the same. I don't like the removing of the batting powerplay, just increasing the dull middle overs. As I've said before, the future for ODI cricket is the 40 over format.

His central contract will disappear when it runs out, as far as I understand. I'd hate to see the ECB change the rules for one player, even if I don't particularly agree with the rules. If Australia come that is, this contracts issue is interesting.

Absolutely, didn't Eckersley spend some time in the Unicorns too? I know Durston played there for a bit, and this Querl looks like a prospect too.

Guh? Strauss only plays Tests (and FC's for Middlesex) Replacement, yes, that's an interesting one. Do we go back to a keeper opening? I don't think that's worked, Hales given a run? *suggests the typical Sussex bias and Chris Nash.

Going to free him up for BBL and what other hit and giggle cricket there is. Disappointing, but those in charge refuse to do anything in reaction to the best players in the world cutting out formats. Ooh, another OD opening partnership for England!

The pitches in 2010 were much greener. Overhead conditions in this test? There was some at Lord's, but not like 2010. I think resting bowlers and giving others a chance doesn't prove much, but does give Anderson and Broad a rest ahead of a mad 12 months. It's not just South Africa, it's T20WC...

Bang on, whilst I think they could/should have got another 50 in the first innings here, hardly a bad effort. Rampaul and Roach are pretty good bowlers when they aren't bowling no-balls. Agree that this WI attack is better than India too.

I don't think the batting has been that bad. Of course there have been some iffy shots, but you can say that about most dismissals in any Test.

Scraped over the line! Last night was the key session, give Bresnan his due, he's done well here, 8-140 odd and 39 important runs in the 1st innings. He did bowl well, as did all the others. Again, a professional performance by England, getting the job done. I was thinking yesterday, we could...
