Ah crap, I missed it. I knew he was going to knock up a ton sooner or later.

    Cricket 24 - General Discussion

There are a load of confounding factors. One of the oldest issues is fielders instantly knowing where the interception point is and running to it at full whack as soon as the ball hits the bat, without even watching the ball. The result was that back in earlier DBC14 bilds you'd have fielders...

    Cricket 24 - General Discussion

The first game had the opposite problem until later patches - the dynamic field system just put fielders out on the fence wherever you hits fours, and by the time you're 25 not out in a FC game you've got fielders out everywhere and you can hit 100 at better than a run a ball running 1s and 2s...

Personally I just don't bowl much in cricket videogames. There's never been AI batsman that's sufficiently realistic for me to have any fun bowling at it.

    Cricket 24 - General Discussion

The big disadvantage of a cricket game vs other sorts of strategic games is that the end product has to be something that is not only strategically functional, but via strats that are close enough to real life strats that it feels like a real game of cricket. To my knowledge there's never been...

    Cricket 24 - General Discussion

Think of cricket as a strategic game where the bowler makes a bid and the batsman responds. Let's say there are 6 bids the bowler can make, and 6 potential responses the batsman can make. If, as a user batsman, you play vs an AI bowler making bids at random, you're still going to get a lot of...

    Cricket 24 - General Discussion

Cricket is a game of vast possibilities and getting it into videogame form is an enormously difficult task. There are a bunch of wonky things about the BA games in various respects but there's also some of the best and most innovative stuff ever in cricket gaming. The concept of the original...

    The Hundred

I think Franklyn Stephenson was the first bowler I heard of with a specialist slower ball, and I think that was probably a knuckle ball. Chris Cairns developed a very good slower ball in the 90s, prob also a knuckle ball. Essentially, the more batsmen are looking to generate bat speed and the...

    The Hundred

Actually there's one more thing I should say if I'm going to be thorough / boring about it : the visual arm speed is really really really key. I would have to confirm with somebody at BA but I'm not sure that the game maps delivery speed onto visual arm speed. That makes changes of pace much...

    The Hundred

Yeah, it's another example of something that has a very specific use where it'd be fantastic but is horrible if every player can do it. eta similarly, the flick through midwicket from outside off stump. At one stage in a 14 or 17 build the AI was playing that shot all the time and it pissed...

    The Hundred

Do you remember an old DBC build - I think it was DBC14 - where they tried expanding the min/max spped range and the result was medium pacers being incredibly difficult to hit because of the pace changes. That's perfect for a Bopara style bowler.

    Cricket 24 - General Discussion

Batting is already quite difficult on the hardest settings. I think on DBC14 hardest settings my most BazBall knock was a FC triple century off less than 100 balls with something like 40 sixes. I can't get anywhere near that on C22 hardest batting without exploits. The key thing is always the...

I guess individual player licensing is probably not a possible thing but I don't see any issues with including retro stuff from any company they've got modern gear for. Still, the idea of themed sets of greats from particular eras is quite appealing. Robin Smith, Dean Jones, Carl Hooper, Jonty...

    Cricket 24 - General Discussion

It's no word of a lie - if BA included Robin Smith as a C24 player with supersonic shot repertoire, a GN Elite or Ultimate and retro gear, Robin Smith VO for running between the wickets (and the ocassional bit of chat in the field), I would immediately double the maximum amount I would pay for...

I've had a few good lbw reversals when it's been close. The "no run is possible if the ump is about to give you out" is a niggle but getting the reversal afterwards is still nice. Edges do seem to be very clear cut - not sure I remember ever seeing a faint edge although I couldn't swear to that...

    Cricket 24 - General Discussion

Actually, just thinking about Shane Watson lbws reminds me of one of the things I really like about the whole DBC / Cricket series : playing with the helmetcam view, there's a strong "feel" response to lbw shouts. If I'm plumb I know as it hits the pads. That's some nice naturalistic cricket...

    Cricket 24 - General Discussion

Some say it was a Channel 9 cameraman. Some say it was a beta team member investigating bouncer byes. Either way, sending a dude careering around the outfield on a Segway during matches is a pretty bonkers idea but still way more sensible than letting Shane Watson call his own lb reviews.

He's looked pretty useful. Batting side deffo finding it tough going. Cox might have a broken hand from the look of it. Def would like to see the swing graphic.

The beta team is just an old cricket myth. If the beta team really existed then there'd be at least one Shane Watson press conference blaming them for a bad lbw review.

    Cricket 24 - General Discussion

Hmm, I've had a slightly more detailed look. Ok, so pace bowler. Back of a length. Should come through waist / thigh high, at least. Maybe a low pull shot is on. Maybe there's enough width for some kind of back foot force. Ball pitches on that length. Batsman now seems to have magically...
