2001/02​

The AFCON Sahara Shield, simply and commonly known as the Sahara Shield is the top-tier African Championship of Test cricket.
The tournament is organized by the African Confederation of Nations between full-member African nations every year.

The 2001/02 AFCON Sahara Shield will be the inaugural season of the tournament. All matches will be played in Egypt in October.​

TEAMS

In May, the African Confederation of Nations confirmed the participation of all four Full Member AFCON nations for the inaugural edition of the Sahara Shield.
At the start of the tournament, South Africa were the best-ranked African team according to the World Test Rankings, being ranked 8th in the the world.

Hosts Egypt were ranked 14th while Morocco and Zimbabwe were ranked 21st and 22nd respectively.

Egyptian Cricket Association confirmed three venues for the 2001/02 AFCON Sahara Shield: Al Salam Stadium in Cairo will host the final.

FIXTURES

African Confederation of Nations confirmed the schedule for the inaugural edition of the tournament in May.
All matches of the Sahara Shield would be played in Egypt, from October 20th through to October 31st.

Squads

Each team taking part in the competition is required to name a 15-player squad at the start of the tournament.
No upgrades can be spent to improve players mid-tournament; upgrades must be made during squad announcement, or before.

Lineups

Playing XIs are required to contain at least one capable wicket-keeper (//) and four bowling (//) options.
Designated captain () at the start of the tournament can not be dropped unless injured or unavailable.

Format

The tournament is played in a single-elimination format most commonly known as a knockout.

Points System

In case of a draw, the following points system will determine the outcome of a match:
Win: 12 points / Tie: 8 points / Draw: 3 points / N/R: 1 point / Loss: 0 points

* awarded only for performances in the first 100 overs of each first innings and retained irregardless of the result of the match

200-249 runs - 1 point | 250-299 runs - 2 points | 300-349 runs - 3 points | 350+ runs - 4 points

4-5 wickets - 1 point | 6-7 wickets - 2 points | 8-9 wickets - 3 points | 10 wickets - 4 points

Player Injuries

Injuries are randomly simulated to give this league somewhat of a realistic feel.
Players that play without a rest are more likely to get injured.

* Can play with a 50% ratings decrease; 75% chance of developing a Degree 3 injury

* Out for one game; instantly made unavailable
- Can play one game early with a 50% ratings decrease upon return. Heals fully after a two-game rest.

Degree 4

* Out for two to three games; instantly made unavailable
- Can play one game early with a 25% ratings decrease upon return. Heals fully after a three-game rest

Degree 5

* Out for four to five games; instantly made unavailable
- Can play one game early with a 10% ratings decrease upon return. Heals fully after a five-game rest

Degree 6

* Out for six to ten games; instantly made unavailable
- Heals fully after recovering from injury

Degree 7

Ruled out for the remainder of the series/tournament
- You can call-up a replacement if your player pool can support it​
