Titmus knew Ledecky was the benchmark yet the young Aussie Ariane Titmus pushed the Olympic champ all the way in the 800m free final overnite. The Tassie born 17 year old set a new national record of 8.17.07 and has set her sites on taking time away from Ledecky leading into the next Olympics.

Titmus rated her record-breaking silver at the Pan Pacs as a "breakthrough" ahead of Tokyo 2020.
Ledecky set a championship record of 8:09.13 to claim the meet's first gold -

Cate Campbell sounded a warning to her sprint rivals with a scintilating freestle leg in the final of the inaugural 4 x 100 Mixed Medley.

Australia stopped the clock at three minutes, 38.91 seconds - just 0.35 outside the world record, set by the USA in Budapest at last year’s World Championships. Joining Campbell in the victory celebrations were Mitch Larkin (backstroke), Jake Packard (breaststroke), Emma McKeon (butterfly).

The Dolphins finished the first nite of competition with 1 Gold, three silver and I bronze medal. The Americans again look the team to beat.

Big second nite in the Pan Pac pool for the Dolphins with a triple treat of gold medals.
Stunning victories to freestyle sprinters Cate Campbell and Kyle Chalmers in the blue riband 100m sprint added by a sizzling and exciting new-look womens 4x200m freestyle relay team o f Ariarne Titmus, Emma McKeon, Mikkayla Sheridan and Maddie Groves.

Campbell said of her 52.03 Pan Pac record win that she is no longer be haunted by "little nightmares" that lingered from Rio 2016 after clocking the second fastest time in history – also a Commonwealth and Australian record – 0.03 faster than her previous best and previous world record set in Brisbane on her way to Rio.

Chalmers powered home in 48.00 seconds to leave fellow Dolphin Jack Cartwright (48.22) who tied for silver with world champion Caeleb Dressel of the United States in his wake.

In the 4x200m relay, Titmus led off in 1:55.27 followed by McKeon (1:55.66) Sheridan (1:56.72) before Groves (1:56.47) held off Olympic and world champion Katie Ledecky in the final leg to seal gold in a new national record - of 7.44.12 seconds.

At the halfway point of the four-day meet, Australia have a total of four gold, six silver and two bronze to leapfrog Japan into second but still trail world hiflyers the US (eight gold).

The Dolphins completed a highly successful Pan Pac campaign in the pool in Tokyo tonight winning eight gold, 12 silver and seven bronze medals –for a total 27 medals across four days in the 2020 Olympic city.
They added to their tally with two gold to Cate Campbell in the 50 m free and the women’s 4x100m medley relay of Emily Seebohm, Jessica Hansen, Emma McKeon and Campbell, ensuring Australia's women swept all three relays and finished second to the US at the packed Tatsumi International Aquatic Centre. Our women again dominated the medals.
