I believe Pakistan is going to surprise India in this world cup. UAE had been our hometown and home cricket for a decade. So in a way, this World Cup is happening on the home grounds. I think that Pakistan is the favorite to win the first game as well as this World Cup.

I wish I could write and echo this to every cricket lover in India. I know India has not lost against Pakistan in world cups, but there will be someday that they will lose. The team who plays good cricket and is better on that day will win, it does not matter whether that would be India or Pakistan. For players these games have become just another game, yes the pressure is super hight but one needs to be prepared that every record ends some day.

Given the current political environment which I do not want to discuss at all, its a game where both the countries will go mad if they lose it. The people who will go mad are hardcore chest thumping nationalists. These are not cricket fans like you and me. I worry about the well being of all the players and their family in these environment.

That being said, I hope its a cracker and may the best team win. Does not matter what the record is..

On a side note, I am happy I am part of this forum where we do not have hardcore nationalist ready to thump the chest in the name of being a better nation. All the social media will be deactivated from a day before to few days after the game. The negativity for either team has no place in my life.

Good one and well put! India has to lose to Pakistan some day in a World Cup. Law of averages is definitely a 'thing'.

The political environment thing has been played out to their heart's content. Every time this game happens (only at an ICC event level these days), the media frenzy gets louder and louder... These days they have to shout even louder from the rooftops about the political atmosphere because unfortunately the Pakistan team of today does not seem to carry the charm of the 90's or the early 00's (genuinely sorry to all the Pakistani fans in this forum; just stating my opinion) and the gap between India and Pakistan from a cricketing standpoint has grown to be an ocean wide that the contests are not as exciting anymore.

It won't matter a thing if India lose to Pakistan in the first game. We could possibly lose to them, get that thing out of the system and go on to win the whole damn thing! As opposed to those days when beating Pakistan was more important than winning the WC, right now things stand at the right place where a defeat to Pakistan won't hurt at all as long as we win the WC.

I am very disappointed with the commentary team here at the ICC WT20. Its feel of people who are just there to make a quick buck /came in too cheap for the ICC. These guys don't seem to have core knowledge of the game- no research on the countries that are participating, an overwhelming focus on Mentor Singh Dhoni, Virat and his losses, the Ind-Pak rivalry and the Eng and WI. Beyond this, they just do not seem to have very many topics to discuss. What also beats me is the fact that Dinesh Karthik, who did so well during the WTC Final has been left out!

Well said!

such a better format
Having the Wildcard round also means that there's always something for everyone to play for - the two Top 8 teams will be squabbling over that direct Quarter-Final berth, while the Associates will always feel they have a realistic shot at squeaking 3rd.

Haven't followed the first half of the Aus-Ind Warm-up..... Is the pitch difficult or Indian openers are lacking aggression?

Saw few edges thus far.

Looks like the ball isn't coming onto the bat well, so yeah a somewhat difficult track it seems.

When Michael Vaughn said that India should not be even considered as favorites, he was absolutely spot on. Why would you consider a team to be favorite when they have no clue about the conditions? This Indian team perhaps even does not know how to play cricket in T20's correct?:rolleyes

On a non sarcastic note, everybody back in Indian colors now seem to be in form which is a good sign. Also if Hardik is not going to bowl, can we already have a replacement? Bring in Iyer!

If Hardik Pandya is not bowling, no point in having him in the squad. We already have better batsmen than him in the team. No bowling ability then no place in the squad.
