2021 ICC Men's T20 World Cup - India (UAE/Oman)

Although last time we lost to New Zealand despite me saying they would win. I am still constant with it that India would beat Afghanistan. I feel either of Rashid Khan or Mujeeb or both would be rendered ineffective. Nabi is actually the bowler who you need to play out carefully.

Kishan, Rohit & SKY literally gave a beating to Rashid Khan like anything at the same venue just few weeks back while they struggled against Nabi.

India should win today but an upset cannot be ruled out.

Well we can't rule out an upset even against Namibia. But the confidence with which people are saying that Afghanistan will beat India is rather surprising. Afghanistan are infact in a position where people will expect them to go ahead. Pressure is on them and not on India.

People are saying lots of "deserving this", that"..... No! It's not like that. Did SA deserved to lose semifinal in 1999? Did Pakistan deserve to win CT in 2017? Did India deserved to lose mini world Cup final in 2002? Not at all..... Sorry Afghanistan, India is taking this game.

That's a little far fetched. The only reason an upset is expected when playing against Afghanistan is because of their spin department and gung-ho attitude during batting. If both click, then India is done.

Pressure is on them and not on India.
Not even the pressure or fear of losing to Afghanistan? The morale is down, no batsmen in form, bowlers misfiring and failing to take wickets. I would say it's more on us than them.

Because AFG is a really good team and can very easily win, and it wont even be an upset. They are nothing like Namibia who are truly minnows and do not have any players with international level experience.

AFG might not be favourites or with a 50/50 chance for a win, but its too far off either. 40/60 atleast

No one expects AFG to go ahead except for die hard fans and hardcore optimists. Everyone will expect India to win against AFG ATLEAST

Mate, the answer to your questions is YES!

South Africa didn't have the stomach to finish the match- as ugly as it may sound, that is the truth. The last wicket- with 1 required off 3, there was no need for them to set off for the run.

CT17- Pakistan were the better team on the day. India, despite winning the toss shouldn't have chased. So, yes, we deserved to lose

ICC CT2002- We didn't lose the Final- the trophy was shared with Sri Lanka, after successive washouts. I believe you are referring to ICC CT 2000-where Cairns beat the sh*t outta of bowlers. So, despite being in a winning position, we lost it. So, we deserved to lose.

Hope, this helps!

Those last words- 'ATLEAST', that's where the element of doubt exists. I used to be sure- but our team, under pressure, is not a pretty sight.

You've Echoed my point. It is like that. On the day what you do, counts. Some team showed zeal, hunger, fighting spirit, doesn't mean they deserve anything. :)

I'm having a funny feelings that Afghanistan will succumb to the pressure of qualification to finals in sight. India really have nothing to lose and they are almost but out.

I have a feeling that Afghanistan will deliver the final blow to the Indian campaign today.

I am sorry but this is pure pessimism. I am not denying that we have many issues in the Indian side that needs to be looked into. But I don't think it would be a cake walk for Afghanistan to beat India. And yes it would be an upset if they beat India. I mean Afghanistan just lacks experience and aren't as professional in their approach as India. They've not shown potential to withstand pressure situations and here they are into a situation where they might feel that they can create history.

Now you would say even Pakistan doesn't look as professional as India but they beat them. No! If you've followed Pakistan Cricket after the 2019 WC you can see their approach have started to become more professional. Look at their build up to this tournament, they've looked strong enough.

Also I've not said that Afghanistan can't beat India, they surely can! But I don't think India would easily give the match away to them and this is where we have the advantage.

No one expects AFG to go ahead except for die hard fans and hardcore optimists.
Look at the example of 83'WC. Would people have given India a chance? I don't think so! But listen to Kapil Dev talk about it. He said to the team, "We can win the World Cup." Was this hardcore optimism? Not at all! It was self belief. A country that has been taken over by an external power and they are still playing this tournament, they've ought to have a lot of self belief. But there are expectations on this side from few fans and they might expect themselves to be good enough to beat India. But suddenly India taking on them and hurts them on every mistake of theirs it suddenly creates pressure.

They are nothing like Namibia who are truly minnows and do not have any players with international level experience.
I think I was the one who was not expecting them to deliver. But they beat Scotland. They've not got experience but they've shown character!

I think if this match was in Sharjah, i'd give Afghanistan a good chance. In Abu Dhabi, their batting style, which emphasises six hitting over strike rotation, won’t be effective at all, due to the massive ground.
