I said as much after the India-Pakistan game. I still stand by this.
Let them know India is also infront of them
Did they nearly knock out West Indies from the 2019 WC in the Qualifiers in Zimbabwe or was it Ireland?Scotland have nothing to lose and like to play attacking cricket. They've beat the ODI World Champions, so there's every chance they could bloody the nose of one of the big three in this group.
It was Scotland. They were robbed by a lack of DRS and bad weather.Did they nearly knock out West Indies from the 2019 WC in the Qualifiers in Zimbabwe or was it Ireland?
It is not pessimism. It is a calculated guess based on the morale of the team and the strength of the opposition. No one is saying it is a cake walk - but there are plenty of IFs and BUTs which could very well turn out to be true because of the situation we are in.I am sorry but this is pure pessimism. I am not denying that we have many issues in the Indian side that needs to be looked into. But I don't think it would be a cake walk for Afghanistan to beat India. And yes it would be an upset if they beat India. I mean Afghanistan just lacks experience and aren't as professional in their approach as India. They've not shown potential to withstand pressure situations and here they are into a situation where they might feel that they can create history.
Now you would say even Pakistan doesn't look as professional as India but they beat them. No! If you've followed Pakistan Cricket after the 2019 WC you can see their approach have started to become more professional. Look at their build up to this tournament, they've looked strong enough.
Also I've not said that Afghanistan can't beat India, they surely can! But I don't think India would easily give the match away to them and this is where we have the advantage.
Look at the example of 83'WC. Would people have given India a chance? I don't think so! But listen to Kapil Dev talk about it. He said to the team, "We can win the World Cup." Was this hardcore optimism? Not at all! It was self belief. A country that has been taken over by an external power and they are still playing this tournament, they've ought to have a lot of self belief. But there are expectations on this side from few fans and they might expect themselves to be good enough to beat India. But suddenly India taking on them and hurts them on every mistake of theirs it suddenly creates pressure.
I think I was the one who was not expecting them to deliver. But they beat Scotland. They've not got experience but they've shown character!
Both statements look completely opposite. But I understood you meant professional instead of unprofessional.why would I say Pakistan don't look unprofessional - they have been brilliant and incredibly professional.
Atleast I am not writing off that upset! And no, I am not hardcore optimistic. It is like 3 out of 10 times possibility. And when I was talking about hardcore optimism, I was talking from fan/viewer's side - not player's side as per your Kapil Dev example.
