2022 ICC Men's T20 World Cup - Australia

And with that... Australia bows out.. ..

Had it not been for that three wicket over and if Rashid was promoted earlier we might have seen Afghanistan secure a famous victory here.

Australia finally being exposed for their archaic T20 team selection though, love to see it. It’s clear that they missed Finch the captain today too, really need a proper leader after he’s gone.

Clear weather at the SCG tomorrow. Only a huge performance by SL can save the Aussies right now.

Weather good for Adelaide on Sunday too. Only a massive upset by Netherlands or Zimbabwe can save Pakistan. So no chance. Only got ourselves to blame.

How about the weather in Melbourne on Sunday?

To be fair to them, this is a format which is the most prone to upsets. In a way, it argues well for the sport.
Think most are negating this fact, thanks for posting this Asprin!

I actually think ODIs are marginally easier as an associate nation to get a win over any full member side. T20I sides in the lower rung recently seem to have stuck by a template that is getting them decent results but it still seems like something that can be countered as T20s require specific skills that are not available widely especially in associate and lower tier sides.

A shame we’ll never know as the gulf in quality between associates and full member sides in ODIs has risen now compared to even the near past.

But ODIs have a bigger margin for error for the stronger sides.
That's also why I think there is more chance for weaker sides, because they too have a bigger margin for error.

However, I think it may change as more players - particularly those in the lower levels of cricket - will look to hone T20 skills because it's where the money is. I think the weaknesses for teams like Bangladesh, Zimbabwe, Scotland, Afghanistan, Ireland, UAE and below is primarily the batting. If they have less pressure I think they are more suited to setting or chasing targets. Ireland are improving and it feels like, if they qualify for the next WC, could push more teams with a bit more experience for their middle order.

The majority of Irish players have decent exposure within the English domestic structure - it's just the lack of international-level games that holds them back. I mean I remember the 2011 WC upset they did to England was legendary - and they almost pulled off a Test match against them last year. Players like Paul Stirling never get the accolades they deserve but could honestly walk in to most T20 XI's
