Where were they in the Asia Cup?
Except 1 match, I think they were pretty consistent. Played well against Nepal, chased well against Bangladesh, played well against Sri Lanka even though in losing cause seeing how the pitch behaved. Scored 916 runs in 164 overs playing at 5.6 runs per over is not bad seeing they had a horrible outing of 128 included in that score line.

They didn't turn up when it mattered though.

They only did not show up against India which was also understandable since you had to be in the same mindset for 2 consecutive days and on and off play wears you out. I am not saying that is good but not all teams are built tough. Do Pakistan lack mental toughness? Absolutely yes but that does not take away a solid core of players you guys have compared to patchy players years ago.

From Imam to Babar to Rizwan to Ifti to lower order bangs. You need to figure out good spin bowler as Shadab has looked beyond mediocre. As mentioned before Afridi is not coming to rescue every time as it was made apparent against the India game.

I think it’s fair to place India as the favourites at the moment given every other team seems to have been affected by some player missing out due to injury while our only concern on that front for now is Shreyas Iyer’s recovery.

Still don’t think we’re overwhelming favourites to the extent of Australia in 2003 or 2007 though (and if you’re reaching out there, the 70s WCs that West Indies won).

I also think the Pakistani fans have been picking up the bad habit of reverse jinxing from Indian fans with how they’ve been proclaiming doom with their side. I’ve seen multiple instances of it elsewhere with other folks underrating this Pakistani side for unknown reasons but even without Naseem and a proper attacking spinner, they still are one of my favourites for a top four spot and it will be anyone’s game beyond that.

don't think so Shaheen is not the same after the injury he is bowling to many full inswinging balls Naseem Shah was the best pacer in Asia cup 23 and now he is injured so is ruaf I think and the replacement in contention are pakistan A players and m amir and hasan Ali. Fakhar is out of form.imam did not perform in Asia cup.

But… but… Shaheen is an all-rounder!

...when Naseem was ruled out, we needed someone who could bowl with the new ball. He bowls well with both old and new ball, and is a team man. His presence lends energy to the team.
And then he picks the person with one of the highest powerplay economy rates of recent times. I hope Hasan plays the same role Tom Curran played in 2019: sit on the bench and watch his team win the WC.
