I couldn;t believe it either but its true!

Pakistan?s Shahzad Malik hits 403 runs off 137 balls!

By Gul Hameed Bhatti

KARACHI: Pakistani batsman Shahzad Malik, who has had two incredibly fruitful domestic first-class seasons recently, turned in an even more mind-boggling batting performance while playing for the Langleybury Cricket Club in the Hertfordhsire county in England, earlier this month.

The sport.telegraph website reported on Thursday (yesterday): "Quadruple hundreds are rare enough in any form of cricket, but imagine hitting one in 36 overs. That was the amazing feat accomplished by Langleybury CC?s Shahzad Malik earlier this month during a cup match against Middlesex Tamils.

"Shahzad, who has played for Pakistan A, went in first wicket down to score 403 from 137 balls, 38 of which went for six. ?The Tamils were reasonable club cricketers,? Langleybury?s captain Nigel Ilott said, ?but they had a lot of spinners and Shahzad loves that. It was as if someone like Kevin Pietersen had come down to play at our level?."

Shahzad is an upcoming batting talent who is emerging fast from the domestic cricket circuit here. In the 2004-05 season, in first-class cricket, he hit 1,008 runs at an average of 72.00 with the help of four hundreds and five half-centuries.

His capabilities had surfaced during the 2003-04 season when he accumulated 956 runs in first-class matches, at an average of 56.23 with two centuries and eight fifties. In May earlier this year, he made the Pakistan A tour of Zimbabwe under Misbah-ul-Haq?s captaincy.

The 28-year-old Shahzad was born in Sialkot on April 8, 1977. He has appeared in first-class cricket for Gujranwala, Sialkot and Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) since 1997-98. In limited overs cricket he has represented the Sialkot Stallions and also played non-first-class cricket for Public Works Department (PWD) and Saga Sports of Sialkot.

In a total of 50 first-class matches, he has scored 3,110 runs at an average of 47.12 with seven hundreds and 20 fifties in addition to taking 33 catches as fielder. In 47 limited overs games, his record is 1,152 runs at 32.00 with a highest of 93 among his seven half-centuries.

Heard of the Indian school cricket record? Some guy scored a triple and his partner scored a double. About 500 runs in 60 overs of play or something like that. But that, of course, is school cricket.

This news is for real. He used to play for Pakistan A. If it even has on Pakistan TV news, if I believe it.

It would be great if he would be selected for Pakistan A again and eventually for the national team of Pakistan.

A lot of teams will get problems when Shahzad Malik and Afridi will play together in the same team.

If these guys come at the start of the innings, it won't be a problem for Pakistan. If they get out quick, there is always the strong middle order of Pakistan. Pakistan is used to of the openers getting quickly.

But if these guys stay for a while they can give Pakistan a good start.

But is yet to be seen of that guy will make it to Pakistan.

Pakistani have had a history of blitzing openers, haven't they? Afridi, Imran Nazir, Yasir Hameed. Then they all disappear from the scene and reappear a few years later.
