My expected eleven for Australia:

Tim Paine
Brad Haddin
Cameron White
Michael Clarke
David Hussey
Callum Ferguson
Steven Smith
Mitchell Johnson
Brett Lee
Xavier Doherty
Shaun Tait

Shane Watson is due for a rest, so Paine will come in to open with Haddin. They won't risk Marsh so Ferguson will come in & Tait needs some game time to see if he will be fit enough for a world cup.

This is what cricinfo is going for.

Team news

Callum Ferguson has been drafted in as cover for Shaun Marsh, but with the series decided it could be a good chance to give Tim Paine a game before the World Cup. Another spin option is always useful in Sydney so Xavier Doherty may return, while Shaun Tait needs some cricket before heading to India, so another quick could be rested.

Australia (probable) 1 Shane Watson, 2 Brad Haddin (wk), 3 Tim Paine, 4 Michael Clarke (capt), 5 Cameron White, 6 David Hussey, 7 Steve Smith, 8 Mitchell Johnson, 9 Xavier Doherty, 10 Brett Lee, 11 Shaun Tait.

Shahzad has a hamstring injury and Chris Tremlett a side strain so, with Liam Plunkett still zig-zagging his way from West Indies, it would seem wise to give James Tredwell a match. Another option is for one of the struggling batsmen to miss out and Luke Wright to get a turn.

England (probable) 1 Andrew Strauss (capt), 2 Matt Prior (wk), 3 Jonathan Trott, 4 Kevin Pietersen, 5 Ian Bell, 6 Eoin Morgan, 7 Paul Collingwood, 8 James Tredwell, 9 Chris Woakes, 10 James Anderson, 11 Steven Finn.

As you said got a feeling Watson is due for a rest.

Prior has to go down the order, since he just isn't up to opening. Maybe Bell to open?

Pietersen could do with some runs in this game. The lack of consistency in his scores of the past two years is very alarming and the World Cup is coming soon.

Prior will be opening throughout this and the World Cup, that won't be changing.

I'd give Wright a go in place of Shahzad, I think he has mroe chance of playing in the WC than Tredwell, so might as well.

I can't see any results changing then. :rolleyes

I can understand Prior being pick on his wicket-keeping for the World Cup, since it's important to have a good keeper in the subcontinent, but he's not an opener. He hasn't looked the part during this series really.

Plunkett can bat, at least in theory.

Yea, but of course thats irrelevant since he is picked for his bowling which has always been a joke @ international level.

But then again TBF to the selectors, even if they thought about calling up Jones. Given his injury record, they probably weren't sure if he fit enough to bowl 10 overs, since the caribbean T20 he was only bowling 4 overs.

So in a way Plunkett is scrapping of the barrel type selection, given that all the proper ODI pace bowling options are down injured.

Lucky Watson. Resting on a freaking hot day.

I heard that this could be the lowest crowd ever in ODI history. School days and hot days don't mix in cricket or anywhere else.

Selectors must be either happy with Doherty or are confident Hauritz will be right as he hasn't been picked on the SCG.

Paine again left out, still have to wonder why we took the reserve keeper for.

One simple reasons. The balance of the ODI team is with the keeper opening. So if Haddin where to get injured during the world cup, Paine will take over.

Interesting start by England, the openers seem measured and careless all at once. Could be a big day for Strauss.

It's a waste of a spot if the backup keeper isn't good enough to be the backup batsmen. No other side in the WC has taken a backup keeper, and the ones that have are essentially part time keepers like De Villers.

Now if only he could produce more of that!

Cricket Australia, you are the biggest tossers in history. Young Timothy Paine, eager to get some time in the middle instead of sitting on his arse and carrying drinks, finally gets released to Tasmania for some valuable batting practise before the world cup. But unfortunately for Tassie he gets called back up to Sydney which is seemingly annoying but okay as surely he'll be playing, right? WRONG! WTF is Cricket Australia doing with the boy, calling him back up to Sydney to sit on the bench again :facepalm. Same goes with Doherty.

*End Rant*

Cricket Australia cost Tasmania at least Five Hundred Thousand Dollars. With Paine and Doherty we surely would of won the preliminary final. :)
