OK Planet Cricket, time to get excited...it's time for the T20 draft! The idea is to pick the best team you can - based not on current form, but who the best T20 players are since T20 started in 2003. Too soon I hear you say? Not enough history? Well you're probably right, but it will be a fun way to fill in the time and get us in the mood before the T20 World Cup starts next month.

Rules:
*24 hour time limit for your pick - but try to be a lot quicker :yes
*At least 6, at most 12 participants in the draft - sign up below
*My now favourite format of 1 round per country, plus 2 unrestricted rounds at the start. This time I've added a 12th round in which you pick not just 1, but 4 things! 1) a 12th man - presumably a decent fielder, 2) a coach - plenty to pick from because every T20 team has a coach, 3) a home field that your team will play at, and 4) a nickname for your team/franchise eg. Durban Dandelions

At this stage, I'm thinking of these eligibility rules:
*Players must have played T20 at either domestic and/or international level (ie. no Sobers or Bradman). So yes, if the player hasn't played a T20 international he can still be picked, provided he has played in official domestic T20s :yes I didn't want to discriminate against the modern T20 mercenary who may have never played for his country - or only played once or twice.
*Players who have played T20Is for 2 countries, can be picked for either one.
*For players who haven't played T20 for their country, first look at other formats (Tests and ODIs) to see which country they've represented, then if they haven't played internatioanlly at all, base their country off their Cricinfo profile.

For those who are new to drafts, you make your selections in the order I randomly assign and players/coaches/grounds CAN'T be chosen twice. Once it's your turn to pick you have a maximum of 24 hrs to make your choice. Hopefully it won't take that long though, keep checking regularly to see when it's your turn. If you're confused, the best idea is to look at our last draft and see how it worked. Here's the last one I ran:

Make a post below to register your interest! Looking to start in a few days - Monday might be the go - that way the Olympics can't distract anyone :) In the meantime I'll resurrect the all-time T20 XI thread and we can discuss our XIs to start building the excitement :D

I think I'll just watch this one and leave it to the IPL and BBL fanatics. I don't really know much about T20 cricket.

^Fair enough - although who says you have to know anything? I don't think I've watched a whole IPL match since 2009 :p

So I count 8 signed up thus far, I'll give it another day and see what we get up to. Don't want to go past 12 though I think, that way everyone can have first choice in a round.

Oh and if anyone wants to be first (or last) picker in a particular round, speak up - and it will be so! The draft order works itself out to be fair anyway so there is no inherent advantage gained. In the mean time, post your all-time T20 XI in the other thread we've got going http://www.planetcricket.org/forums/cricket-discussion/all-time-t20-xi-81096.html - or fling some mud at someone elses :D

I'm not doing that. Whatever I'll pick as my XI here, that will be the best one. :p
