Abhishek Jhunjhunwala has become the first former ICL player to be roped in by an IPL franchisee.

Abhishek Jhunjhunwala will play for former IPL champions Rajasthan Royals during the 2010 IPL. The talented mid order batsman was a member of the Royal Bengal Tigers and the Indian World Team in the Indian Cricket League Twenty20 competition.

Jhunjhunwala severed ties with the ICL in 2009, and was granted amnesty by the BCCI. He attended a week -long camp organised by the Royals team at Jaipur's Sawai Man Singh Stadium. The camp was organised ahead of the Rajasthan Royals clash with England Twenty20 champions Middlesex Panthers at Lord's on Monday.

Right. After reading his name I thought this was some kind of joke thread.

He doesn't look much special, but our batting lacked last year so a good buy.

Out of interest, if the Royals qualify for the champions league next year, will he be allowed to play?

Abhishek is a really good midlle-order batsman
Rajasthan Royals will definitely benefit

Who? When I first read it I thought it was some aboriginal from Alice Springs. That was not intended to be racist. I apologise if you feel that way.

Rajasthan were lacking solid local batsman. Abhi will lend them stability in batting as he bats at three and was easily best Indian fielder in ICL. He will definitely take point position in field.

Yes he will play because IPL 3 will happen before Champions League 2.

It was more a question related to the fact that other ICL players are barred from playing in the champions league, but then they don't play for IPL sides do they.

ICL players are now free to pursue career at international stage.

Middlesex Panthers?

Which does not include the T20 Champions League. I think to play in it, you got to quit playing in the ICL.

ICL has more or less released all of its contracted players.

It will be for this year. Next year they should be playing.
