OK lets have another go. Just a reminder of the basic rules, which I'll pilfer from the last thread :p

Test match requirement: 10 (lowered from 20 in the Richie draft)
Maximum players from one country: 4
Left Hander requirement: 2 players who can bowl/bat left handed (can only be the weaker one of the two if they are an all rounder). In other words, right handed #3 batsman who bowls left handed doesn't count, but an all rounder who does the same does count. You can imagine that the same would be true for bowlers (e.g. James Anderson isn't a leftie).
Wicket-Keeper Requirement: Only his stats as a wicket-keeping batsman will be taken into account. For example, whatever runs or catches Sanga has taken after he gave up the gloves will be discounted and cannot be used in your argument that you have the best team because we do not know whether he would have scored that same mammoth amount of runs if he was still WK.
Time limit: 24 hours
Player must have debuted in Test cricket from 1 January 1990 until now. No players from the 80s allowed...

Here's the format:
1st 2 rounds - no restriction by country. We pick the best players - 16 of them if we get 8 drafters.

I was thinking of a less regimented format this time ie. you can choose any player from any country in any position in any round. Towards the end, I say we all get 2 picks a round since the quality gap between players is smaller by then and we'll be keen to start wrapping up our teams. So something like this:
1 player per turn in rounds 1,2,3
2 players per turn in rounds 4,5,6,7
That gives 11 players in 7 rounds of drafting.
Sounds good, but I'll prefer a regimented draft like the previous one.

OK, so send2yaari I'll add you to the list :thumbs

The other format option is to do one country per round, like the World Cup draft at the beginning of the year. So you could have 1 round each for the main Test nations (making 8), maybe a combined Bangladesh and Zimbabwe round, leaving you with 2 left. Both could be unrestricted rounds or there could be a 2nd Australian round since they have been the dominant team over the period. I quite like that format too since it makes you research and pick players from all the countries. I'm pretty easy actually, whatever you guys feel like doing...:D

Reading over that bid/list idea I was talking about again sounds a bit complex, an easier way to do that would be just to automatically 'charge' for the early picks ie. whoever gets 1st overall pick doesn't get a 4th round choice, 2nd overall misses his 5th round choice etc. just to help make it a bit fairer because whoever picks 1st gets an advantage.

I'd love a country draft, the sort of we had in WC draft. I enjoyed that.

Yes Sifter, the country draft does sound like a lot of fun. And it is something different from earlier.

OK, thanks for the feedback guys. Here's how it's going to go:
1st 2 rounds - no restriction by country. We pick the best players - 16 of them if we get 8 drafters.
The last 9 rounds - one round for each country with Bangladesh and Zimbabwe combining for the 9th one.
That'll give us an XI each :thumbs

Reason for picking the best players first is to take out some of the obvious picks. If we started straight into the rounds for each country then there would be a greater advantage to be had by getting one of the first picks in a round - like West Indies for example.

It will be much more realistic if we have first 3 rounds with no country restriction. We can omit Bangladesh/Zimbabwe.

How long does it take to complete the entire process?
Depends. It can go on and on if people don't come on and pick otherwise it is a smooth sailing.

I surely won't omit these two nations. The current state is good enough, I suppose.

I'm in. Haven't been part of many drafts in the past but this sounds fun. :)
