Neither was I clear about unused motion captures. I don't know that there are any in C2002 but it is not unusual for game developers to put them in for future use.Only by finding out more about the file formats will we get any closer to discovering if there are or not.

Yes, in BLC there were plenty of unused motion captures, the 'leave' for instance. The original game only used the sway out of the way method, but there was also a front foot leave and a duck under the ball leave.
In c2k2, the square drive seems not to be used. I once swapped the sqdrive_0 and sqdrive_1 bin files in the captures folder with another stroke, and the outcome was a little strange. The first part of the stroke seemed to be missing, but it's difficult to explain. That would suggest that there are unused motion captures in the game.
