Ashes Cricket General Discussion

I'm not sure if others face this or not, but when facing spinners, a lot of red balls(short balls) cannot be cut properly with the batsman playing the weird cut animation over the delivery,as if not bending enough, without any judgement of the length of the delivery.

Do others face this, or am I doing anything wrong? Classic controls of course.

@wasteyouryouth have you ever played an online game?
DBC14 I did.

Maybe I'd be take part in an organised league, but even then online gaming is not something that particularly interests me in general. That being said, I have just purchased PubG.

I have had instances where I have tried a backfoot shot angled towards backward point/third man where they play the deflection cut and been bowled. Although that can't be necessarily called down to the red balls because I don't use the batting marker.

I've never played one personally, however I feel they could be fun if playing against respectable people, I hate playing online games against try hards that just abuse dodgy mechanics "because they're in the game"

Yes, same here. Also, when I mention red balls, I mean they're definitely considered as short deliveries by the game. Although the batsman should ideally gauge the length of the delivery and issue the correct animation.

Yeah, my best days of sports gaming were at uni with a house of mates playing PES. My World Cup win with Czech Republic was a glorious moment in front of a full house having pre drinks before a night out. :p

I always thought online gaming would be a great way to replicate that and I had some good games on FIFA a few years ago against randoms. But it is too dependent on playing against reliable people and the technical side like broadband speeds. Like I said an organised league would be good, but for me it'd have to be PC cause I'm not paying for the privilege of online play on the PS4.

I think the game mostly does well at selecting the shots. Since I stopped using the batting marker, my timing is more refined so I see a wider variety of shots. My instance is probably playing on slow pitches and the ball kept low. I think the problem can also come from the height of batsmen, in that if they are using a cross bat shot the mo capped batting animations don't adjust well for the height of the ball. So it's usually taller players that will have an issue when playing low bounce pitches. Personally, I'd rather that was changed instead of the AI correcting the footwork for my error in judgement.

yea I remember when Fifa was fun, know it just makes me want to smash my controller through the screen haha

What??? Pay them to make the game better??? It's their job to make any game they release to the public good to play. Any bugs found after can be ironed out....and I am not talking about making a mega patch months after release like for dbc17.
What i am saying is we have to be fair on BA as well. Cricket gaming is really not the profitable for game developers. Most big companies are not even interested anymore. If its a patch that really fix all the major issues and few animations here and there, am sure most of us will appriciate it and support the product by paying a bit extra .

Not me.

If Big Ant need the extra money to fix their full price games they can start a patreon.

Put me down as a NAY as well...

I've said I would support a DLC release that added stadiums & more mo-cap possibly. But paying for bug-fixes is just insane.

I agree with this...though I doubt it will happen. If BA could get the core mechanics of the cricket game right (and I'm sure this is where they are focusing) and strip out all of the conflating complexity, DLC could offer expansion possibilities that cater to individual's interests and wallets. Never going to build you own stadium? Then you don't need the stadium designer DLC. Play lots of career mode or custom club competitions? Then buy the club ground localisation pack that reflects actual grounds from minor clubs around the world (i.e. not every cricket ground is surrounded by mountains and has Cricket Australia boundary ropes). Want to relive a classic 1970's tour? Buy the 1970's players and kits DLC. Want to really captain a side? Buy the cricket captain DLC to allow ball-by-ball tactics and decision making and in-depth team selection. Just want to have a casual game of cricket? Just stick to the core game...it's really good.

Easy to say. I know it is not so easy to do...but I feel that it would be worth exploring.

Speak for yourself coz I'm sure that "most of us" will not pay anything extra for fixing a half-baked game after already paying for the game.
