More than stats Id see the atitude in each of them during a test.Giles is defensive and hardly attacks or looks to pick wickets which is just the opposite with Panesar.Wickets are the main aspect for tests.

Fair enough. Let's look at career bowling averages in England then shall we?

Panesar in England: 21.00
Giles in England: 43.11

Giles does not perform well on tracks that don't aid him. He is not consistent enough with the bat to warrant his poor bowling performances.

What about First Class?

Giles has a lot more wickets at a lower average. What does that tell you?

Giles was told to bowl in that way to rotate the seamers, whereas Panesar is being used differently, it's not as if either of them have a choice, they're just told how to bowl, to a certain extent.

When Jones plays against Kaneria or Afridi tomorrow he'll play the sweep and he'll more than likely he'll get out by them.

I may be brutal, I just wish the selectors would be, especially going on the stat Andrew posted on Jones average since his Kiwi Hundred.

Why play a keeper who is supposedly in the team for his batting who averages 23 for the best part of 2 years and is a liability behind the stumps?

Panesar averages 60 away from home with the ball. Oh, look, I can be selective to prove a point as well.

If you are talking about the 'no-ducks' record, then that isn't really anything to write home about. I'd much rather he had a duck every other innings, but in between those ducks was a 50 or a 100.

Incidently, Geraint Jones scored more today than Chris Read averages in Test matches, all this with pressure on him to score quickly as well.

Incidently, Chris Read scored 150 last week against Pakistan, with Pakistan having a stronger attack. All this with pressure on him to try and get his place in the test side back.

Well there is a bus driver called George Irony around where I live; he drives the 22 from Eccleston and that passes by my house all the time.

I'm a huge fan of GoJo, but it's time for a change; since GoJo's 100 against NZ in his third test, he hasn't scored a 100, and it has been 26 matches since then, which is about 42 innings without a 100. However, Read's test career is 11 matches and 16 innings old, without a 50 or 100. An average of more than 50 since he was dropped suggests he deserves a recall.

On the subject, Panesar doesnt seem the mug with the bat as people say. He averages 7.69 (or something like that) in first class cricket

Ah, but he hasn't maintained his average. Since Panesar made his debut, in all first class cricket, Panesar averages 30.52. In the same time period, Giles averages 34.096. Giles has got worse since the Pakistan tour of 2000, which was the peak of his career, and the one time he was a match-winning bowler at test level.
