BANGLADESH SUPERSTAR AND BRAVE HEART – THE ONE AND ONLY MASHRAFE MORTAZA - PLAYER TO WATCH FOR KKR IN IPL

Mashrafe Bin Mortaza is one of five God’s Gifts to Bangladesh in Cricket, the other four being Ashraful, Tamim, Saqib and Raqibul.

He was fortunate to be under the tutelage of one the great West Indian pace bowlers of the past-Andy Roberts who taught him tricks of his trade in 2001 which subsequently helped him to become not only the Premier bowler but a good All Rounder as well.

One of his great quality is that he delivers when it matters most.

One has seen time and again that when our brittle opener(s) and top order crumbled Mashrafe along with the exceptionally talented Saqib came to the rescue of the team and took it to a respectable position.

He made both One day and Test debut against Zimbabwe at Dhaka in 2001-02.

If Ashraful was responsible for engineering memorable victories for Bangladesh from batting aspect, Mashrafe was the master architect as a bowler.

A case in point would be his key role in our stunning win against India in the world cup one dayer in 2007 where Mashrafe took 4 wickets for 38 runs from 9.3 overs.

He was the man who made initial strikes bowling Sehwag all ends up in the second over and subsequently removing danger man Robin Uthappa.

He got rid of Ajit Agarkar in his second spell and finished off in style in the final over by removing Munaf Patel.

He deservedly won the Man of the Match Award for his match winning performance.

In the match against the redoubtable South Africa he could not do much with the ball.

However he more than made up with a cavalier knock of 25 runs from only 16 balls and clouting 3 majestic fours and 1 towering six that really helped Bangladesh to put up a match winning total.

Back at home against India he excelled both with the bat and ball.

One of the significant innings that he played was in the 2nd one dayer against India where he made a memorable 42 that included 4 sixes in one over and in which he amassed 26 runs from the bowling of Dinesh Mongia which by the way is a Bangladesh record for most runs in an over.

He also batted splendidly against India in the tests scoring priceless innings of 79 in the first test and another 70 in the second one.

During that series he became Bangladesh's top scorer of runs as well as joint highest in wickets in the series and in the process established himself as an all rounder.

One of the key milestones of his career is that in the calendar year 2006 he became the highest wicket taker in ODIs, taking 49 wickets which is a great achievement for him and Bangladesh as well.

His best bowing figures is 6 wickets for 26 runs against Kenya in 2006 at Nairobi.

Quite rightly he has been rewarded with the mantle of Vice Captaincy.

Of late under Bowling Coach Champaka he has shown mark improvement as reflected in his performance with the ball against New Zealand, Sri Lanka, Zimbabwe.

No wonder he was bought for $600,000 by Shah Rukh Khan for KKR.

In a very recent local Premier Division Cricket League match he plundered 69 runs of 33 balls with 4 fours and 7 sixes with a staggering SR of 209.09 which augurs well for him in the context of the impending IPL that is going to start soon in South Africa.

We are up for some fireworks from Mash in South Africa and I am very confident that with his aggressive and never say die attitude towards the game he will live upto expectations.

The entire nation and his fans all over the world will be watching for Mash Magic.

Good Luck Mash!

I'm looking forward to seeing him. He got so much money paid for him. Really can't see him doing well from what i've seen of him. Extra pressure on him too.

^I'm looking forward as well, but to be honest I don't have any high hopes regarding him. I will not say anything now, as the games name is T-20. Let's see how he performs.

Well his past records in RSA are quite woeful but I can see that his confidence is high and he said he wont let Kolkata feel the absense of Akhtar and Gul. He was in good form last time Bangladesh played SL and Zim. However, the conditions were bowler friendly. TBH I am not expecting him to perform well but I wouldnt say anything as of yet. Lets just hope he comes up with some match winning performances.

Mash is $600,000 valued KKR Team member - He will prove a point

He's going to get smashed.

As you are aware he was bought for $600,000 by Shahrukh Khan’s KKR after a great duel with Kings XI Punjab.

I am sure he was not bought for that phenomenal amount without any rhyme or reason.

KKR as we all know is masterminded by the famous Ex Head Coach of Australia under whom the Aussies have an outstanding success record.

To second that KKR is led by none other than the Ex Indian skipper Saurav Ganguly with best record as a Captain.

I am sure the Owner(s), Coach, Owner and team management have weighed all Pros and Cons before taking such a critical decision.

Also, Mash is an All Rounder – If Fate accepts your wishes (LOl!) that he is going to be smashed by which I guess you meant that as a bowler he will fail . No worries - His bat will talk and talk in a big way as he can manage the long handle pretty well. (Example :From a portion of my current Thread content:)

In the match against the redoubtable South Africa he could not do much with the ball.

However he more than made up with a cavalier knock of 25 runs from only 16 balls clouting 3 majestic fours and 1 towering six that really helped Bangladesh to put up a match winning total.

Last but not the least he is a great learner unlike Ash(unfulfilled promise).

As he plays more IPL matches he will have more International exposure playing with all the superstars and I am sure his performance will be corrspondingly reflected as the Super tournament progresses.

So far as I am concerned I an very positive and of the firm opinion that even if he does not shine with both bat and ball in very match he plays he is bound to succeed either with bat or ball in a particular match because he has that hunger /killer instinct in him and proved several times in one day format and against India as well ( LOL!) – Ref. Mash is a Quality Performer both with Bat and Ball(in Bouncy conditions as well).

Well his past records in RSA are quite woeful but I can see that his confidence is high and he said he wont let Kolkata feel the absense of Akhtar and Gul. Welcome back!

Brave heart Mash did have a miserable series both with bat and ball during Bangladesh Cricket Team?s visit to South Africa in November, 2008 last year because of fitness problems.

When Bangladesh Cricket Team went to South Africa last year the bowling coach Champaka just took over.It is obvious in such short span one was not able to see improvements on the pacers performance.

But subsequently in the home series against Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe he was awesome particularly with the ball both in terms of wicket taking and economy.

South African pitches are typically bouncy as we all know.

Mash?s record in similar bouncy Conditions in One day World Cup that was held in the Caribbean?s 2 years back have been very impressive both with the bat and ball as I mentioned in my thread.

When he made his ball talk (took 4 wickets for 38 runs from 9.3 overs) Bangladesh knocked India out of the tournament.

Again in a crucial and important match against South Africa he scored a whirlwind 25 runs from only 16 balls, clouting 3 majestic fours and 1 towering six that really helped Bangladesh to put up a match winning total and ultimately South Africa the then #1 in World One day ranking were soundly beaten.

So the above two candidly proves his credentials as a proven performer against Quality opposition in a similar (bouncy) conditions that he is going to confront in South Africa.

I am confident Brave Heart will prove a point to his fans all over the world.

Mashrafe?s ODI Ranking (Reliance Mobile ICC Player Rankings)

Though I am not a firm believer of Reliance Mobile ICC Player Rankings as their criteria of Rating is not very clear to me nevertheless I thought in the context of the present thread it maybe worthwhile to mention Mash?s ODI ranking in the bowling category which currently shows that he is ranked 8th with a rating of 671.

That should be an added incentive in the context of impending IPL.

Good Luck Mash!
