Batting help

Can someone please explain what buttons i have to press on the keyboard to hit the ball. Because each time i try to hit the ball it keeps saying i havent selected a shot. I have been using the the arrow keys which has moved the bat and i have also been using the d, w, and s keys but it still keeps saying i havent selected a shot. :help
