Trouble with the BLC 99 clip is that there is music playing over the top of it, so you cannot hear the ambient sounds or sound of bat on ball etc which was one of the strengths of the game...

Just for fun here is clip of match played in sub continent (beach cricket mode :D) where people can get a feel of the crowd noise. Still don't think ambient sound has been bettered since

BLIC 2005 comes the closest to matching what I want out of a cricket game - it has the best balanced bowling I've played.

IC2010 is probably the best for batting, but as no game has ever given me the sense of progression and building an innings that you get in real cricket, so I've usually just been content with being able to smack the ball around provided the bowling experience is good, which means I don't think it's the best all round, as I don't like bowling in it.

Cricket 2000 and Super International Cricket would be favourites of mine for nostalgia, but I wouldn't call them objectively great games - just ones I've played a lot of.

Cricket 97 I used to play a lot. Loved the fact it had Benaud commentating. Bowling was poor though; too many exploits.

Not directly, but it is what formed the basis for the Megadrive release of Brian Lara Cricket

Mind you, ignore Genesis in the title of that video - the game will not work on a Sega Genesis, as it will not run at 60Hz. You will need either a region modded Genesis or a PAL Megadrive to play it.

They are often bundled together as one game, but Lara 96 was a slightly updated sequel - not the same game.

I'm not aware of the real differences between them.

Such memories.

Although the game was somewhat ruined when I figured out that bowling full tosses with the worst bowling stats possible would result in looping beamers that would land on the stumps for an unplayable wicket every time :p

----------

Which begs the question, has any cricket game not had a bowling exploit?

tbf, a patched IC10 on hard mode didn't have any bowling exploits - it was only the fact the AI had no match awarewess and therefore played too many random aggressive shots that resulted in easy catches in outfield. When AI played 'properly' then very hard to get a cheap wicket.

I'll take no credit for that - I had my headphones off so was just looking at the video to see if the game was the right one.

For what it's worth the games I have -
International Cricket (NES)
Super International Cricket (SNES)
Brian Lara Cricket (Megadrive)
EA Cricket '96 (PC)
EA Cricket '97 Ashes Tour Edition (PC)
EA ICC Cricket World Cup England 99 (PC)
Shane Warne Cricket '99 (PlayStation) [I think I have the PC version too, just I couldn't find it while checking]
EA Cricket 2000 (PC)
World Cricket 2002 (PC) [here's a review of the earlier versions, I assure you nothing is new in the 2002 edition - awful, awful game]
EA Cricket 2002 (PC)
EA Cricket 2004 (PC) [I only have the 'Classics' version, my PC at the time couldn't run it so I never got it]
EA Cricket 2005 (PC) [likewise]
Ricky Ponting International Cricket 2005 (PC and PS2) [bought the PS2 version because the PC one won't play on Windows Vista/7/8]
International Cricket Captain III (PC)
EA Cricket 07 (PC and PS2) [have the PS2 version for the sake of it]
Brian Lara International Cricket 2007 (PC and Xbox 360) [I won it on PC from PlanetCricket, later got the Xbox 360 version as it was the only game at the time I got my Xbox]
Cricket Coach 2007 (PC)
Cricket Champs (PC) [the company now seem to sell life-insurance, a good indicator of the quality of the game]
Ashes Cricket 2009 (PC)
Cricket (Wii) [I think I've played it twice]
Cricket Revolution (PC - Steam)
International Cricket 2010 (Xbox 360) [Promotional Copy from Codemasters - many thanks to them]
Street Cricket Champions (PS2) [surprisingly broadly acceptable, not good, but not terrible either]
Shane Watson's Powerplay Cricket (Nintendo DS) [trust me don't buy it]
