Was in the paper this morning. I don't think it's really that shocking, there was lots of discussion going on about it at the time

 He would have been crucified if he had chosen to dump NZ. Thanks God he made the right choice.

Shane Bond and Craig McMillan were two completely different cases, Bond was screwed over by New Zealand Cricket whereas McMillan screwed New Zealand Cricket over.

Bond was completely upfront with New Zealand Cricket about everything.

Not that big a deal really. Don't know what all that criticism was for. Chasing after big money to secure his family's future isn't something to be crucified over. I'm absolutely certain that, if faced with the same situation, most if not everyone would at least consider dumping a NZC contract for an IPL one.

I'm glad he chose to stay with NZ but I wouldn't have blamed him if he went for the IPL.

NZC need to pay their players better, this trend will not go away anytime soon. Just look at what Pollard did recently.

All the poor boards better get some cash together and pay their talents big bucks or they will have no right to complain when the players do leave.

There's nowhere to get the money from, Test cricket in NZ doesn't attract huge crowds, and ODI cricket isn't much better. Most of the ticket sale revenue comes from the T20 matches. I don't think NZC gets much from the government either. If cricket became an Olympic sport, we could probably afford to pay our players more...

Four million people, the countries second or third favourite sport, and an average team who the public would rather take shots at then support, New Zealand cricket really doesn't have the resources to pay the players anymore then they already do.

So what happens? IPL salaries will only increase, how can they avoid these situations?

The only real option they have is to do what Sri Lanka did and play India fifteen million times a year. Realistically, though, Australia should be helping them out a bit being one of the richer boards in their vicinity.

They are making an investment in cricket's development in USA today. If it pays off they could be filthy rich.

That is a super long shot but you are right, they have made a solid investment in USACA and anything that happens here will involve NZ cricket.
