id like to join a cricket club and ive always been a big fan of cricket all my life. ive never joined a club before. do you think i am too old to join a cricket club and would i look stupid, i play for the school cricket team (year 8).

:help :idea:what

I would say most clubs have youth teams these days, especially around test match grounds like Edgbaston, so you should have no trouble as you like in Birmingham.

Yep you can. I joined a club when i was 7 and look where i am now most clubs run things for the youth and especially birmgham which has a good asian cricket network

You should have no problem in finding a club and most would be more than glad to have you on board.

From what I understand any club that plays within the top so many tiers of the ECB pyramid structure must have a certain number of junior sides. So going on your location there should be a good selection to choose from.

This link will take you to the home page of the Birmingham & District league (on play-cricket). Have a search around and find the nearest couple of clubs, give them a call and take it from there!

p.s.

Better still this link will take you to a list of clubs that should be in your general area. Click on the name for more details.

You should be able to. I started playing club cricket when I was 9 in Under 12's. It then changes to U 11's U 13's etc. I am now in U 15s and I will be in my 6th season this year.

On this topic, I played club cricket from when I was 8-11, but then chose to play tennis instead, but I would still really like to play cricket once I turn 18, since there are numerous night and mid-week competitions available. And I was wondering whether you thought it would be difficult to play with a senior team and be competitive after such a long lay off?

For the record, I was an alright bowler, leading wickettaker in last season, although I don't think i've improved with age. I wasn't much of a batter, bit wild, but I feel now I would be alot better since I can control myself and my tennis background would help me a little bit with batting. (Both involve hitting balls).

It might take you a little while to get back into things but that's why nets and practice were invented. When you first start bowling again it'll feel weird and you'll probably get some soreness but just keep on playing and both of these things will subside.

You may also find that due to your tennis training you eye\hand co-ordination has improved considerably and whilst it won't help with making the shot look pretty it certainly helps in making contact with the ball.

The main thing though and this applies to dhoni as well, is to just go out there and enjoy it. Don't put too much pressure on yourselves, sure, play hard and to the best of your abilities but just as important is to have a laugh - do this and I'm sure the rest will come.

If you've played Tennis, you should be able to cut and pull like a legend, but might struggle with the Straight bat shots, drives etc.

I joined when I was 16. Have seen massive improvement in the last 3 months since winter nets started.
