Just heard on Sky Sports News that Cardiff has been allocated an Ashes Test in 2009 ahead of Old Trafford.

Is this the first time an Ashes Test contested on British Shores will have been outside of England?

First time England will have played any home test outside of England. They have played an ODI in Wales, and will play a second later this year.

I can't believe they have chosen Cardiff ahead of Old Trafford and Trentbridge!

Im gutted, I wanted to go to a test, and Old Trafford is the only one close to me!

What is the reason for this? I know they usually take it in turns to miss a test bar Lords, but Old Trafford only missed one last year?

Well, for me, Old Trafford deserved another Ashes Test, as they filled out their stadium every day, and must've brought in alot of revenue for the EBC. Also, Hampshire's Rose Bowl would also have been better IMO.

I'm more annoyed that they've ignored the rose bowl, a much better venue, rather than old trafford and trent bridge. Although Old Trafford is being renovated pretty soon isn't it.

Hang on guys....stop thinking about other places....I'm pretty sure the Rose Bowl will be used in 2010+ as a test venue but its good that test cricket will actually take place in Wales (I get the chance to watch :P) But I also maybe agree that its first test shouldn't really be an ashes test. However, I wish them good luck with the development of the stadium. :)

lol that Australian team that plays there in 2009 is going to be so different to the 2005 team.

Ponting, Lee and hopefully Warne will probably be the only ones left :(
