The champion?s trophy is just a few days away and it?s making me very inquisitive as to which team has the preeminent chances of winning it. Taking the player?s form in IPL into considering won?t be fair as IPL is t20 and CT is 50 overs, it?s not necessary that a player performing well in IPL will do the same for his international side in Champions Trophy. Having said that, no doubt that good form in IPL will allow a player to go with a much confident attitude into the Champions Trophy 2013, so with that in consideration, IPL form can certainly be one of the parameters to judge the players. In this article, that?s what the parameter will be. Let?s get to serious business then, which team?s players are performing the best?

The 2nd leading run getter in the IPL ? Chris Gayle has been playing impeccably well. There is a sense of belief that Gayle has for some reason not been able to continue this form while playing for West Indies especially in ODI?s but certainly he can change this school of thought and make a point in Champions Trophy. No doubt, West Indies cricket will have it?s hopes up after a dream-run in the t20 WC last year. West Indies played like a solid unit in the last year?s t-20 WC, the players complimented each other, the mood in the team was certainly good and of course this all was resulting in high-quality performance on the field. Can they repeat the performance, this time in the 50 overs format remains to be seen.

Talking about Gayle, it will be unfair to not talk about his team-mate Dwayne Bravo who has also been selected as the captain of the West Indies team in the coming champion?s trophy, currently he?s the leading wicket taker in the IPL. With Bravo performing, it gives the side that flexibility to opt for an extra batsman or bowler depending upon the conditions. Bravo has been great with the bowl, can he be equally handy with the bat is what the West Indies cricket fans will be looking forward to and hoping for. Bravo?s contribution with the bat will be invaluable, the flexibility a side can have with a performing AR is certainly of great use and Bravo can certainly prove to be fitting for this role. His fielding and the never say die attitude on the field ? as the captain, will certainly be moral boosting for the other player?s in the team.

Pollard hasn?t had the impact he would have liked in the IPL so far but yet, he has had an impact. How? All thanks to his significant impact on the matches with his fielding. No doubt, a good side needs good fielders and with Pollard in their side, West Indies certainly are looking like a good fielding unit. Pollard is a team man, he?s a player on whom the crowd has it?s eyes closely stuck on. In order for a successful Champions Trophy campaign, West Indies team will be expecting high of Pollard and if he does fire then certainly, West Indies has more than just a ?good? chance of doing something special.

That?s the 3 BIG MEN of West Indies. These are the 3 players that have the capability of winning matches for their team single handedly. Apart from these 3 big names, rests of the players included certainly have the potential to change the course of the game on their day. Whether it be Sammy who?s been very handy with both bat and ball for Sunrisers, Ravi Rampaul who has looked in good form with the ball or RCB or Smith who has been in fine knick with the bat for Mumbai Indians. Samuels one can say was looking fine in the earlier matches he played for Pune Warriors India and West Indies team will certainly be expected high from him, certainly with the bat and if he does perform well with the ball, it will just be an icing on the cake.

When I looked at the West Indies side as soon as it was announced, I knew that this side has got the potential a match-winning side needs. It has to be said, West Indies team has got plenty of AR?s and that?s just an added bonus. This West Indies side bats deep ? not to forget Tino Best?s 95 vs England, which least to say was a surprising knock but indeed was good enough to prove that he does know how to bat. His fast bowling, his lethal pace will easily be an asset to the West Indies bowling.

One player that must not be forgotten here is, Ramnaresh Sarwan. He?s a senior campaigner and his experience will be invaluable for this young West Indies team. His calm batting in the middle order can be a blessing if the top order collapses. Along with him, two youngsters in Charles and Holder will be looking to make amends if they?re given a chance to play. They?ve got everything to prove and so far what I?ve seen of Holder in IPL, he does look promising. Charles certainly has been proving his talent at the test level.

That?s how I look at the West Indies side. They?ve got a great side on paper and yet, most probably will go into the tournament as underdogs but they wont mind that, West Indies team has got a point to prove and the success of West Indies team has been awaited for long by their loyal fans. So, this is why I feel West Indies team stands a great chance of a glorious Champions Trophy campaign perhaps even a tournament winning. They certainly can make the other team?s dance on the Caribbean music.
