The absence of Shane Watson and Sachin Tendulkar in their lineup didn't seem to hurt the Durban Bulldogs on the batting front. Brendon McCullum and Ross Taylor quite ably filled their shoes with half-centuries. Hashim Amla continued his rich vein of form to score 97 off 114 balls.
However, a brilliant effort from the veteran Adam Gilchrist behind the stumps saw him fall short of a much deserved century by only three runs. Gilchrist's reflexes hadn't slowed down all that much with age as shown by the 4 catches he pouched.

Alastair Cook took WCF all the way with a sublime hundred from the top. This match also saw a return to form for skipper Ricky Ponting after two average outings against Liverpool and Bengaluru. On the other hand, Durban's pace-heavy attack struggled for both penetration and control on a dead pitch that had nothing on offer for pace bowlers. Graeme Swann, their sole specialist spinner also found it quite difficult as Durban slid to their first defeat of the competition.
