The PlanetCricket View: Cook return to form comes at right time for England

Whilst the Aussies have been naming their squad for the opening Ashes 2010 test against England later this month in Brisbane, England have been celebrating the return to form of a batsman who could play a crucial role for the tourists over the next couple of months as the English seek to leave Australian soil complete with the little urn that they brought over with them a couple of weeks ago.

Alastair Cook’s recent form hasn’t been great and his inclusion in England’s plans for the imminent Ashes cricket action has been questioned by the great and the good of the cricket world. England fans, on the whole, have remained loyal to the batsman and many of them deemed it only a matter of time before Cook found top form again.

Thankfully for England, it would appear that these fans were correct. The opener hit an impressive total of 111 not out in the second innings of the game against South Australia in a performance that has justified the faith shown in him by the fans and coach Andy Flowers as well, who has refused to reveal any hint of anxiety about Cook’s long-term prospects over in Australia.

In a statement that will provide a massive boost to England, the batsman revealed that the English have had the ideal preparation for the Ashes series, with the 11-a-side games against quality opposition really testing each and every player (as Cook puts it, ensuring there is “no hiding place” for the Englishmen) as they seek to fine-tune their game ahead of the Brisbane opener.

If everything keeps coming together in this fashion for England, it may well be that we see a big shock in the Ashes betting when the dust has settled on the last Test.

Cook hasn't been out of form, he's just obviously flawed. He was the same four years ago (and plenty of times in between), just hanging the bat outside off stump and getting out. When he manages to avoid doing that, he can bat well; 8 scores below 30 and yet somehow there was a century.

What's good about Cook i think he has no mental block if he is " out of form " he could hit a ton out of the blue

Lol, what I like is that building-up to the ashes, everything seems to be going England's way and the starting xi is starting to look good. While on the other hand, I don't think anyone can be 100% sure who's going to the Aus xi for the 1st test.
