I'm going to India this summer and I was thinking of bringing back a cricket bat.
But I don't know much about them and I don't want to get rinsed.

I want a full sized bat of about average weight.

One thing I've thing I noticed is Indian bats have low middles.
Does that make it difficult to play off the back foot. Ive been using my friends Indian bat in nets found driving easier but struggled to play off the bat foot (but it was fairly heavy)

I should add Im not that much of a serious batman and don't play at a very high standard so I don't want a really expensive bat.

Should I stick to brands and if so any suggestions

Thanks In advance

not really any brand to look out for, just go for that bat that you believe suits you best, also go for english willow, its much higher quality than kashmir willow

Kashmir is good in some points. English willow is alot more expensive too...
Try a RBK bat, or I got an English Willow GN fairly cheap in India last time around.
I love SG's too-Light, big middles. I hit my first four with an SG :)

If your not high quality of playing use:

1. Newbury(UZI or SAMURUI)
2. Salix

Where in India are you going?
If in Bombay go to place called METRO Theatres (its quite famous any cab fellow will know the way) and there ,as many as 50 sports showrooms are there and all have good quality bats.

Whatever you buy make sure its English Willow and A light bat... The Pakistani Bats i bought were bloody weighd a tonne ,, i am guessin Indian Bats can be heavy to unless you go for expensive ones

Half the Sussex team don't play to a good standard?
I think they're a lot of people around the World that would disagree with that.

Same with the Salix, seeming as a lot of Internationals use them.

Salix make truly awesome bats, I've got a Vantage (lowest end of the range) and it's brilliant; light pickup, powerful and gently bowed, best bat I've ever used.
If you're not playing at a high standard go for a grade 3/4 GN or GM, still nice bats.
